The tipping point and the importance of Stickiness
"The tipping Point, how little things can make a big difference" Malcolm Gladwell
So far it seems very interesting for the kind of research I have been doing,
the small changes made in a month at the school might have worked as a tipping point, for them to realise how little changes, (made from cheap material and with voluntary help - important point in a low income population) can open eyes, the community surrounding the school, the children' perspective of education and for the teachers to pay more attention on the environment in their classroom. Maybe all they needed was a 'push'.
I worked with advertising before - yes, I can compare it with advertising! I realise that the message has be sent in the right way, talking the same language and making it 'stick' (as Gladwell describes it). If it doesn't stick, it fades after a while. In my research situation, I realised that the community I was talking to needed to participate and make things themselves, to learn how they work and to understand how they can change.
