STILLFAVS: 71st Golden Globes

Hey STILLIFE readers! In case you were hiding from the Polar Vortex and missed it, the Golden Globes were on last night. The awards themselves, hosted by the incredibly funny female duo of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, were long yet still very entertaining. But nothing gets us going quite like awards show fashion. Here’s a quick round up of the good, the bad and the peasantry.

Best Baby Bump: Olivia Wilde. Is there anything better than a momma to be in body hugging emerald sequins by Gucci? I think not. Fashion Moment: Sofia Vergara. Queen of the mermaid gown, Sofia definitely knows what works for her fabulous curves but this Zac Posen shows change can be a great thing.  On Point: Kate Beckinsale. Can you find something wrong with Kate in this Zuhair Murad? If you can, there is probably something wrong with you. 

Big Question Mark: Paula Patton. Paula Patton was there. She wore Stephane Rolland Couture. Still don’t get it. Biggest Let Down: Julia Roberts. Julia, you are one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, why did you treat the awards like a PTA Golden Globes viewing party in this Dolce & Gabbana? Why: Jennifer Lawrence. This Dior Haute Couture looks like JLaw competed in the Charmin Toilet Paper Wedding Dress contest and lost. Horribly. But what’s an award show without our favourite men suited up? It’s almost always hard to find misstep with the men, so here’s a few of our favs.

Matthew McConaughey: Killing it in an emerald velvet jacket with his best accessory, his stunning wife Camila Alves both in Dolce & Gabbana. Bradley Cooper: He can make any suit look good, but grab a seat because he’s breaking hearts in this Tom Ford. And finally, Leonardo DiCaprio still tugging at our heart strings since Titanic in Giorgio Armani. Sigh.

STILLFAVS: The Intouchables

During the long weekend celebrated in our neighbouring U.S. of A, Thanksgiving family bonding was encourage through deep-fried turkey, corn bread stuffing and plenty of Netflix abuse. The favourite of which was The Intouchables. A movie that is not only visually beautiful that is equally compelling in it's narrative. Based on a true story, this perfectly cast French film will capture your attention within the opening scene. That is of course, unless you're not down with Earth, Wind and Fire and street racing. Now take into consideration the photo above. Think about, right? We highly recommend and evening dedicated to this flick. Watch the trailer here. And even so, we don't think it does it justice.

STILLFAVS: Mapping Out Your City

Every city has it's districts, but the official names don't always reflect the neighborhood. Urbane offers a truthful view of different North American cities that will have you saying "trueeee" (as any Torontonian might) to many of the names they've come up with to describe these areas. Added bonus, all prints are available for purchase. Also, if you're planning a visit to any of these places in the near future, these maps may be a good reference for what type of culture you're looking for. Entertaining and informative, double positive.

STILLFAVS: The Vegetarian Ginger

If you have a thing for the popularized "food porn" world than this blog if for you. The Vegetarian Ginger is written by a Toronto based journalism student named Veronica (Ronnie) Sheppard, who is yes- a ginger, but also a fantastic cook. Her recipes are just as amazing as her photography and the combination of the two makes for a really stunning website that is certain to inspire some creativity in the kitchen. Ronnie presents easy-to-do creations that are all vegetarian, she even reviews the vegetarian basics so for those of you looking to go green this may be a good starting point. Some of our favourites? Check our Ronnie's Crispy Baked Portobello Mushroom Fries, Sweet Potato Poutine or Chocolate Hummus. This vegetarian has got the lifestyle down! STILLFAVS: National Geographic Gets Graphic

Okay, don't get grossed out! This is actually super interesting and beautiful. What you're looking at here is a very discrete photo of a baby elephant still in the womb. National Geographic came out with this documentary called Extraordinary Animals in the Womb and some of the images can be found online. They're absolutely stunning, check out more here, But just a heads up, the other ones are much more pink and veiny (compose yourself) but BEAUTIFUL! Don't forget beautiful! How a picture like this is even achieved is quite remarkable. Obviously, this is not for everyone and it is undoubtedly graphic but it undeniably will leave you in awe.
