@stillnotanonymous -  ahhh, I see what you’re saying. though I do feel like at least Steve Jobs, for all his faults as a person, did...have a huge impact on culture (via Apple and associated products), where Elon Musk doesn’t quite have the same...well, he talks a lot about having that kind of impact, but I don’t feel like his ~creations~ are (at least as yet) culturally embedded in the same way. 

...not that they aren’t both awful, just that I feel like Musk’s cult makes even less sense because of his, uh, general lack of broader contribution as far as I can tell.

though I’d be really curious to hear more about your thoughts on “embedded in the culture” because that sounds interesting!

I have to ask how you know this about Yuval Harari? Because there is an openly gay Israeli historian by the name of Yuval *Noah* Harari and I just wanna make sure no one is getting them confused (full disclosure I've gotten them confused in the past.)

academically I like the connection, but for some reason the name itself doesn’t fit him for me? idk. I think it’s the combination of the long e’s plus the three syllables; it feels too complicated?

Amos could work! thematically it fits, and I kind of like the fact that I think of Amos as like... a Puritan name, lol. I think Erik would appreciate the irony and point out that it belonged to him first.

No, I agree with you on that. I just don’t think this is an example of gentilewashing.

I think the main issue is that his background as a Holocaust survivor (which obviously he can’t be if he becomes an American by birth) should NOT be erased. 

What I was saying (and this comment goes in tandem with my post to JP) is that there was nothing in the article about making Magneto a non-Jew, just (and I don’t mean to minimize it at all, because I think that erasing his backstory as a Holocaust survivor is a Big Fucking Deal) that his background as a Holocaust survivor should be erased.

Does that make sense?

yeaaaaah I spend a lot of time feeling kind of out of place because I love Loki too much for a good portion of fandom (making me a “Loki apologist” which is the worst thing ever) but at the same time I’m also not enough of a Loki apologist for another portion of fandom so...

it is a very tiring feeling even if objectively I know I’m not that alone it’s just that the extremes are louder than the middle

mostly i was just terrified because they would not let up so I decided best to deactivate for a few hours. they seem to be gone now.
