Untitled Post
This post is Untitled... in that it does not have a title. Although, I guess by calling it Untitled is, in fact, giving it a title.
I am sitting here next to my fireplace, listening to Jazz Moods: Cocktail Party and enjoying every note. I highly recommend it. Its a great collection of various artists, a perfect evening album to just relax to... and maybe blog a little.
Another great album jazz album to listen to, is Chris Botti: When I Fall in Love, especially if you like the jazz trumpet. He just makes it sing. Its a wonderful album as are many of his. I first heard Chris perform on Stings 2001 album, All This Time. It was a real departure from his normal work and had a very heavy jazz influence. I would highly recommend giving it a listen to. It wont' be time wasted.
I truly feel that jazz is one music that has helped to some extend shape who I am today. Now I didn't grow up in a musical family, but I loved to listen to all kinds of music. I went through my rap phase, heavy metal, pop, independent and some truly random stuff. But nothing ever jumped out at me the way jazz did. I know that is a pretty broad statement, but by jazz I include, blues, jazz fusion, and other off shoots of the jazz genre.
So I'm sitting here thinking and relaxing from a crazy week so far. Kind of mentally exhausting and its nice to kick back and let my mind wonder. Of course I wonder to a dimly lit smoky jazz bar, with the band playing in the corner. The drinks are strong, the music floats over the crowd like an intoxicating lust. You can almost smell the excitement, the passion, the anticipation for the next song. Everyone dressed for the occasion, little black dresses... men in black slacks with a which shirt slightly rumpled from the day. A vodka martini in one hand, a cigar in the other.
Friends getting together, couples spending the evening out... romance in the air. This is jazz.
