Brew #280: St. Mel’s Brewing Company Spring Bock (Seasonal Series No.2)

Abv: 5.6%

Served: From the fridge

Aroma: Sharp herbals, smoke, fruitcake

Pour: Dark opaque copper with tan head dissipating.

Taste: Caramel and rich dark fruit wash, slight grassy notes and hint of hop with a tangy bitter bite. Slight metal and smokiness at the finish. Decent, pungent flavour.

Notes: 500ml bottle, Maibock style, elevated mashing temp.

Brew #127: St. Mel’s Brewing Co. Seasonal Series No.1 - Rasin & Oatmeal Stout

ABV: 4.5%

Served: Off the shelf

Aroma: Porter, coffee, oats

Pour: Cola black with a finger of cream froth

Taste: The blurb on the bottles advertises a silkiness and it;s there in the mouthfeel sure enough. Very smooth with coffee and chocolate tones battling it out. There are deep rich mid notes making it not too bitter and the whole affair ends on a light tart coffee aftertaste. Lovely, lovely stout and light enough (to be called a porter?) to enjoy a few!

Brew #23: St. Mel’s Brewing Company Helles Lager

ABV: 5%

Served: Chilled

Aroma: Soil, grass

Pour: Clear amber with one finger white froth melting to a surface skim.

Taste: Nutty malt notes upfront easing into bread and wood before finishing on a mild hoppy bite. Lovely, crystal clear beer with a fairly complex flavour but smooth enough to sink a few in succession. Great sup.
