In honor of the San Antonio Stockshow and Rodeo’s final day, here are a few of our favorite throwback images from the San Antonio Light’s archive of photographs from the inaugural event, now housed at University of Texas at San Antonio’s Special Collections Library. 

Although there are records of livestock and rodeo events taking place in SA as early as 1854, the first official exposition occurred in 1950 at the newly dedicated Freeman Coliseum.
