How to make black dye

My initial idea is to make the Gems monochromatic, dyeing them myself in shades of black and gray. I had thought that black was one of the most difficult colors to dye fabrics with, that many of the natural ingredients were not color-fast. I’ll need to try it myself, but with these ingredients I should be able to get it:

oak galls or acorns

rust (or steel wool)

lemon juice

natural material for dyeing
