I think we as the gay male community need to recognize how the culture of exercise and 'health' has made many of us exercise bolemic. That it doesn't mean he isn't hurting himself when we see a muscular body instead of a starving one (which we also see plenty of)
How many of us are pushed into the same maladaptive ways of thinking as women suffering from an ED are? Just like how straight men pressure women to starve themselves to look 'beautiful' we pressure each other to become muscular and skinny and perfectly beautiful.
Im glad that psychology research has labeled these eating disorders for what they are. But I feel like our culture is still catching up. Accepting your body is important. though some are be able to achieve thise muscular body types healthily, the variation between everyone means that each person has to try more or less than the next to achieve that same body.
It just isn't realistic to expect the majority of us to appear that way. Instead of trying to force people to squeeze into boxes they were never meant to fit in, we could embrace our bodies and what is natural and healthy for each of us individually. We can live in what is good for us, and be happy with our bodies.
