You felt trapped. The two older men had cornered you in the kitchen, wearing disapproving looks as you looked in between them. “What are you guys doing?” You could feel the tension, in fact you were sure anyone within 10 miles of you three could feel it. “You have been avoiding us, honey,” Tony started in his usual sarcastic tone.
You let out a huge sigh, wanting to be anywhere else than having this conversation. “What’s going on?” Steve asked, his voice was gentle, a hint of concern as he stood with his arms crossed, attempting to meet your eyes.
“Don’t look at me like that, Steve.” The two men could sense something was wrong, but you weren’t spilling. It’d been like this for weeks so far, the two men had begun to miss you.
“We want to help you, honey. And we can’t do that if we don’t know what’s wrong. If you don’t want to tell us right now, that’s fine, just at least let us know you’re okay,” Tony spoke, his tone now softer, more caring as he reached forward and gently grabbed your hand in his.
Tears pooled in your eyes as you tightly gripped his hand. “I’m in love with both of you and I am terrified of that.” The two said nothing as they took this information in. Of course the feeling was mutual from both sides, but they were attempting to figure out the best way to comfort you.
“God, I’m pathetic. We fight some of the worse beings in the universe for a living and I’ve never been scared of losing, but when it comes to you two...” you trailed off, wiping your eyes quickly.
“I’m not scared to love you. I’m amazed that I get to love you two. I’m afraid of losing you. And I know you two can handle yourselves but what if I let myself get too attached and then one of you doesn’t come back to me? I don’t know how I could come back from losing either of you.”
Steve lurched forward, his arms wrapping around your form. “It’s scary, I know. I have the same fear, but you can’t let it stop you from living. From being happy.” He pulled back a little, enough to look in your eyes as Tony moved to place a hand on your hip.
“How about the three of us go up to bed, hmm? I promise that you can lay in the middle,” Tony offered, his eyes flicking between you and Steve. A small smile pulled at your lips, pushing your body away from the counter behind you to follow the men.
Tony made good on his promise and slipped in the bed in front of you, Steve’s form laying closely behind yours. Your eyes began to droop quickly, Tony’s lips giving yours a lazy peck as you fell asleep.
