The surprise almost made him miss seeing the way the other’s about to bounce on their toes, along with the curved grin widening across their mouth. Both are clear signs of excitement, but… for what ?
He pauses then, after hearing their question, and Shinichi, upon fitting two pieces together, suddenly feels heat rising on his cheeks.
“ You, – ” so, that’s why they were smiling the way they did. “ – I can’t believe you sometimes, – ” a hand half-covers his face as he says that, but it doesn’t do much help to hide the rosy tint across his face, nor the tips of his cheeks. 」
kid’s grin stretches wider upon the detective’s ( rather fetching ) embarrassed blush. it does make him want to explore -- to see just where the blush would reach -- but he suppresses the urge ( he doesn’t want to push the detective, not when they haven’t had sex already ).
he does blink innocently, however, at the detective’s statement. ‘ why wouldn’t you believe me ? i’m always entirely truthful. ’ such a lie, and the both of them know it ( but, at least with shinichi, he tries to be -- at least ninety percent of the time, maybe eighty-five on a bad day ).
however, his expression grows serious. ‘ but don’t feel pressured or obligated, seriously. i do have another gift for you, whether you accept birthday sex as one of your gifts or not. ’
