Some of you pro-surrogacy people would kill yourselves if your cat or dog was taken away from you. Yet you expect a woman to give up her baby whom she carried in her body for 9 months with no problem and no emotions attached. Make it make sense.

Just saw a BBC interview on a British family helping their surrogate family (more specifically the surrogate mother) in Ukraine and. Oh my God this just reminds me of how much I’m against surrogacy, despite how glad I am that the woman is now safe and that the family did something to try and help.

The narrator went something along the lines of “just as (name of the surrogate mother) saved (name of the family paying) from the grief of infertility, they saved (name of surrogate mother) from the horrors of war.” How unthinkable is your privilege if you think "suffering from the grief of infertility” is equivalent to a poor woman living through a fucking war and still being paid to carry your baby? A baby YOU are paying for?

The concept of surrogacy reducing women and hurting mothers specifically already has so many points proving how awful it is and why it shouldn’t be allowed, and this doesn’t even take the top of the cake, but damn. I’m just. so mad.

Infertility is a pain. This isn’t attacking women who can’t have children. But treating another woman as a baby incubator, especially a financially desperate woman, and pretending like your suffering is “equivalent” is just. no. That is also painful. It is dehumanizing.
