The blue shark (Prionace glauca) is a large temperate and tropical pelagic shark species (Campana 2005). The blue shark is one of the most abundant pelagic sharks and has a worldwide distribution. Unfortunately, however, it is also the most heavily fished shark species in the world (Carrera- Fernández 2010). Blue sharks are often victim to bycatch. Bycatch is marine life caught unintentionally in a fishery that is targeting other fish. Worldwide commercial fisheries discard an estimated 38.5 million tonnes of marine life! (Davies 2009) The blue shark is an important marine species and helps keep the ocean healthy by regulating the marine food chain, removing sick and weak animals, and ensuring species diversity through healthy competition. #blueshark #oneoceandiving #oneoceanconservation #sharkconservation #stopbycatch Post by-@teeny_travels Photo by @fakewhiteshark https://www.instagram.com/p/Bwae3eQhFmZ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1cj0mls53zriw
