The United States House of Representatives OVERWHELMINGLY passed a bill entitled “American Security Against Foreign Enemies Act of 2015” or American SAFE Act of 2015 (HR 4038) to block refugees of Syria and Iraq to finding refuge in the United States. As American residents, we STRONGLY oppose this horrific bill and its assault on our values and civil liberties. As the title of suggests, House Republicans seek to create an enemy based on their nationality, ethnicity, and religion out of an entire population. The bill targets an already desperately terrorized population. Refugees are not terrorists, they are fleeing terror. This bill would affect all nationals of Syria and Iraq -- Arabs, Yazidis, Atheists, Armenians, Muslims, etc. -- and is an assault on the values embedded in the democracy of this country.
