So, there might be a shooting at my school tomorrow...
Today, while I was heading to my last class of the day, I had overheard several students say that someone was planning to shoot up my school tomorrow. I wasn’t sure if it was just some rumor or not, so I told my teacher. (Not in front of the class, I didn’t want to cause a panic.)
The thing is, tomorrow, there’s supposed to be an international festival/assembly, and everyone whos shows up to school tomorrow will be there, which is really good conditions for a shooter to knock down as many targets as possible, so I’m actually really freaked out right now.
We had a shooter threat happen back in August. At first we had thought it was a test until about thirty minutes in, and we had heard someone banging on the door to my classroom on quite literally three separate occasions. The police caught the guys who did it, and afterwards, we were given next to zero information on what happened other than they were students and that there would be no charges pressed against them “because it was a prank”. The school promised to tell us more, but it’s been three months and that’s still all the school will say. (Probably because I live in a red state) Later, I found out that the people who did it were actually confirmed to be armed, and from what I heard, they weren’t students either.
Before anyone asks, no one got hurt or died, but what those people did was still not okay. By the school telling us that the people who did it weren’t getting any criminal charges was basically telling us that you can go and do something like that without getting in trouble. And again, yes no one got hurt, but since the people who did this were confirmed to be armed, I’m pretty sure they were not intending it to be a “prank” like my school claims. And by making it seem like doing this stuff is okay, my school seems to have encouraged a potential school shooter into going forth with their plans, or at least threats, which just isn’t okay.
Sorry about my rambling, I just had to sort of vent about this. With all the gun violence going on it’s just really frustrating. I’ll make an update on the situation tomorrow after school (If I don’t get shot), but hopefully the situation will get taken care of.
