Assorted "Shane becomes familiar with the rhythms of Ilya's depression" thoughts post-TLG:

Shane talking too much because he realizes that Ilya isn't talking at all and he needs to fill the silence and make sure Ilya knows that Shane isn't holding it against him.

Shane double triple checking that the backup meds are in Ilya's carry-on before they go on a Western Conference road trip. He doesn't nag Ilya about it, but when they get to the airport Ilya starts rifling through everything, thinking he forgot them, when Shane reaches into the front pocket and shows him the orange bottle is right there. Not that they couldn't get them, but Shane wants Ilya to avoid stress as much as possible.

Shane notices that Ilya is able to work fine through his episodes, but that hockey tires him out more. He suggests a quiet day at home with Anya in between home games, saying that he actually needs the downtime. Maybe many couch blowjobs can cure depression.

Ilya goes through the phase where he doesn't want to take his medicine because it's fucking with his libido. He throws one of these at Shane- "Your choice, you can leave me because I can't fuck you or you can leave me because I'm a miserable fuck" and Shane loses it because in his mind nothing, nothing, could make him leave Ilya, this is it for him, and yet Ilya continues to think that one inciting event will result in Shane abandoning him. Shane slams the fridge/oven door/barbell or whatever he's holding back into place and says "If you think I'm such a shallow asshole maybe I should draw up divorce papers for you" and then it becomes this theater of Shane opening his laptop to email their lawyer and Ilya starts crawling on the ground begging for Shane to forgive him and crying and Shane has to reckon with how his reaction made this worse but he's only human too and can only take so much when Ilya starts hurling this stuff at him. Shane apologizes too. Ilya takes his medicine the next day in front of Shane while he shaves in the bathroom mirror.

"I'm not your babysitter, Ilya, you have to want to feel better, this is your life" except Shane does hide all the pills in the house sometimes, putting them in his gym bag and keeping them in the car when things are rough. One day while Ilya is chopping vegetables he realizes that he doesn't really know how to hide all the knives. They have a big set, bought during happy times because they really enjoy cooking together, but now Shane is looking at them like they could be the end of his life.

Shane knowing a depressive state is coming on because Ilya directs all his responses to Anya.

Happy times when Ilya is evened out, so so happy and making everyone laugh and being the captain that Shane knows Ilya wants to be, and feeling guilty that Shane's come to dread the come-down from such a high.

Shane's desperate phone call with Galina of all people when Ilya disappears for like twelve hours in his Porsche. He's white knuckling not calling the police because he knows it'll leak and everyone will know and there's nothing they can do anyway. Galina talks him through it, keeps him calm, and Shane wonders if this is what therapy is like.

The relief Shane feels when Ilya says he thinks this is the right dose of medicine. He can't help but love it when Ilya holds him so tight, like Shane alone tethers him to the Earth. He can't help but love that Ilya needs him so much.

"Wanna talk about it, baby?" Pause. "No. I want you to get on your knees for me."

i really like how this girl is being helped at every step. like her sister comments on how she's brave enough to go out alone now, but she's too scared to finally step into the grocery store, so the show just summons another character who helps her grocery shopping. what if the world was nice to girls

every episode is about demystifying another aspect of girlhood that's also framed as like, recovering from depression. You get over wearing panties and skirts which feel insurmountable at first and now hair care and styling are an adventure. you get over wearing your hair in pigtails casually and now getting the courage to cook is an adventure. you get used to doing some chores around the house and your sister notices how much happier you seem and how much more time you spend together like you used to. you get used to being a girl at home and now being a girl outside with safe people is an adventure. you're not quite ready to be all on your own outside but you meet a friend and now girl friendships are an adventure.

there's an implication that our main character and her little sister used to be a lot closer when they were younger but "for some reason" the older "brother" became a shut in as she grew up. her becoming a girl being a cure for self-sabotaging depression is just like, a real effect of taking estrogen the transfem reading writes itself

I think I read a fic or a post somewhere they're being recorded or something without knowing, and Ilya is basically telling Shane that he needs to tell him if the Metros are being shitty to him. And Shane asks why it even matters, and Ilya is literally crowding him against a wall and going, "because our names have gone together since the beginning, we are the only ones who can challenge each other, you are mine, and I need to know if shitty ass players are trying to take that from me." and Shane just blinks and tells him to go have a drink and talk to him later and this of course goes viral as fuck. that's the energy we need please, but we need this from both ends. Shane walking over to Ilya in public and pulling a cigarette out of his mouth and stomping on it, scolding him to not ruin his lungs and therefore his only competition. leaked texts between them where one is saying that they'd better still not be sick by game time or they'd find another rival to play against, with the other going "I would fucking kill you, there's no one else for you". they obviously get jealous when reporters ask what they think about upcoming so-and-so who is boasting that they're ____'s new rival. a rookie drops gloves and ilya just goes, "you can try that when you're as good as my rival" and skates away. they say "my rival" just as often, maybe more, than they say "Hollander" or "Rozanov" when referring to each other.

He spends his days telling stories of the Jedi to little cadets. He protects them from cruel trainers and unnescessary deccomishioning. He helps 99 with cleaning and maintenance.

He and Jango do NOT get along. And its all on Jango. In the early months Jango tried to kill Sifo a total of 27 times, and each time Sifo would boast and praise Jango ("oh you almost caught me off guard there little Jango! Your shielding is improving!" "PLEASE JUST DIE" "oh youth")

It does not help matters that Sifo reminds Jango of Jaster in a lot of ways.

Funny thought I just had where Grace time travels back to pre-launch or whatever. He lowkey missed Earth but now misses Erid, where he’s lived for decades at this point, even more. Sure, all the teeth that fell out when he developed scurvy are now back, his bones don’t hurt all the time any more (even after they grew thicker to compensate for Eridian gravity), and he has better range of motion now that his arm isn’t covered in burn scars, but— by time traveling, he left behind his friends and family, his students, his platonic soulmate. Obviously, he needs to be on the Hail Mary when it’s time to launch if he wants any chance of seeing Rocky and Adrian and everyone else again.

From an outsider’s perceptive, Grace is… acting strange. He turned up one day wearing a flowing skirt and rocking pierced ears, heavy with earrings that were a deep brown, interspersed with a beautiful shade of green. He seems to bounce slightly when he walks, like when astronauts walk in low gravity environments. He suddenly can’t stand to eat around other people, and looks somewhat squeamish when others eat around him. He becomes teary eyed at the weirdest things and he couldn’t stop staring at DuBois and Shapiro (which some speculate is because he finally accepted the duo’s invitation for a threesome), or Olesya and Yáo (which people are more confused about).

He’s avoiding Stratt.

Moving on, Grace obviously volunteers to become the science lead after it’s “discovered” that he has the coma gene, and people, especially Stratt, are like “???” When she asks him about it, he tilts his head and responds word for word what she told him in her office way back before (later?). He even smiles slightly when he says, “I don’t even have a dog,” though the smile doesn’t reach his eyes. He understands why she did what she did, but still hasn’t forgiven her.

Anyway, I think it’s just so hilarious that Grace randomly talks about someone named “Rocky” all the time but no one knows who this person is. He’ll go offhandedly, “Oh, Rocky would love this!” Or “Shit, Rocky would tell me I’ve been up too long, I’m going to bed.” When someone tries to ask for more details, he looks uncomfortable and clams up. Or, alternatively, he’ll say, “Oh, he’s my best friend! My other half, really. I can’t wait to see him again,” with a bittersweet look on his face. Through some miscommunication and other shenanigans— maybe Grace lets something slip while drunk or sleep deprived or whatever— people come to the conclusion that Rocky is dead and Grace volunteered for the mission to “speed up” their reunion.

Shane tells you he’s doing a silent retreat for his time off this year, but you need to charge your phone, and it’ll be good to check in on him (you always worry about him being too isolated, too lonely). So you head over only to be… well, astonished to see him kissing his arch-rival with an easy familiarity. Shit, shit, you should NOT be here. You panic & leave - let him come to you (Shane’s flight response is also inherited).

Just as you and Yuna are discussing whether you should go back to the cottage, he does come over. With Rozanov. You’re a bit shellshocked, and the whole thing is awkward as hell at first, but also… Rozanov looks at your son like he hung the moon, talks him down from a panic attack, and it turns out they’ve been doing this for almost ten years. The same ten years that you spent encouraging Shane to pursue happiness and live a full life. Of course it breaks your heart that he felt like he had to do it in secret, but he still did it.

That’s your boy.
