PSA for Gatherings
Friendly reminder for anyone attending gatherings or events:
Every community should be able to have open conversations about safety.
That includes asking questions before you attend, during orientation, and while you’re there.
Pay attention to how those questions are received.
Are they answered clearly?
Are they welcomed… or brushed aside?
It’s okay to ask:
• How are concerns handled?
• What happens if someone crosses a boundary?
• Do the rules apply equally to everyone, including organizers and their friends?
Transparency shouldn’t feel uncomfortable in a space that claims to be safe.
Go with people you trust. Avoid isolating yourself in unfamiliar environments.
Let someone outside the event know where you are. Trust your instincts if something feels off.
A safe environment isn’t just something that’s stated.
It’s something that’s demonstrated, consistently.
I don’t measure spaces by whether I’m allowed in them… but by whether they’re worth stepping into at all.
