Norwegian Parliamentary Elections Vocab

Vocabulary that I’ve come across in articles related to Norway’s parliamentary election, which was held on September 13th.

valg (n) - election

valgdag (m) - election day

Stortinget (n) - the Storting, Norway’s national assembly

stortingsvalg (n) - Storting election held every four years

Sametinget (n) - Sámi Parliament of Norway (Northern Sámi: Sámediggi), elections take place on the same day as stortingsvalg

statsminister (m) - Prime Minister

regjering (m) - government

mandat (n) - seat in the Storting

stortingsrepresentant (m) - a member of Storting

kandidat (m) - candidate

parti (n) - party

sperregrense (m) - “voting threshold” (a party must win at least 4% of the popular vote in order to win compensation seats, utjevningsmandater, reserved for smaller parties). This year Rødt and Venstre achieved over 4% ⬇️

stemmerett (m) - right to vote

valgkort (n) - voting card sent to all eligible voters

legitimasjon (m) - ID

valglokale (n) - polling place

valgkrets (m) electoral district/constituency

stemmeavlukke (n) - voting booth

valgfunksjonær (m) - election official

stemmeseddel (m) - ballot

I think for the upcoming Norwegian election, I probably will vote in a way that contributes to there being a red-green coalition.. So I'd probably not vote MdG (Miljøpartiet de Grønne). But I'd never vote for SP because they're transphobic as fuck (among a few other reasons..).. So it'd be AP (Arbeiderpartiet), SV (Sosialistisk Venstreparti), or Rødt for me... Last election, the more "regional" one (kommune-, fylkes- valg) I voted for SV in both.. So I almost am a bit of an SV-er already.. But I feel like that should perhaps not dictate future decisions.. Ideally I would like to vote for F! (Feministisk Initiativ), which is a pink party (they are intersectionally feminist), but you can unfortunately only vote for them in Oslo and Bergen. I could sit here all day and list things that matter to me.. Like LGBTQ+ rights, poverty, immigration, health system, war.. But with all these parties? Most of those beliefs and previous actions almost all align with what I personally believe and stand for.. So yeah.. At this moment.. After a lot of speculations and such.. I am genuinely not sure who to vote for.. Another thing is though, I also would like to join a youth party at some point..? So that's another thing I am a bit sceptic with atm as well. (at this moment, I am thinking I probably will vote for Rødt, SV, or AP.. is basically what to take from this.)
