It had been different, fighting alongside others that were at least sort of like him, instead of alone against another extraterrestrial threat. It felt as if the weight of the world was no longer solely upon his shoulders. He had found allies as well as friends in Bruce, Diana, Victor, Barry, and Arthur, and although Steppenwolf and his army had retreated from Earth, Clark knew that they would be stronger together if there was ever another threat of that magnitude.
He was not naïve enough to think that there wouldn’t be, but as he flew back to Smallville, he hoped that they would be spared another invasion for some time. Landing in one of the cornfields, he started up the slight hill leading to the farmhouse. The lights were off, which made him assume that Lois and his mother must have been asleep—it was after three in the morning, after all. As he neared his home, he was overtaken with the same sinking feeling that he’d had when his mother had explained that it had been foreclosed upon after he died. Running the farm had been difficult enough after his father had passed, and although Ben Hubbard had helped after Clark had left for college, they had downsized significantly over the past several years. Even so, he could never afford to buy it back on his meager reporter’s salary—which he no longer even had, since Perry White and everyone else on the planet outside of his family thought that Clark Kent was dead.
He ascended the stairs of the porch, sighing as he opened the door and closed it behind him. It was easy enough to explain Superman’s miraculous return, but explaining away the resurrection of Clark Kent would be a greater challenge entirely. The house was still relatively sparse, filled with boxes and portraits that his mother hadn’t yet moved out—which had been instrumental in helping him remember after the others had brought him back. His father’s favorite armchair still sat untouched from where it had always been. Wearily Clark sank down into it, rubbing his temples. Sitting there had always helped him think—because it was almost as if his father were there with him, offering just the right advice just when he needed it. Lord knew he needed it now more than ever.
wanna know who could make clark shrink up in his seat, desperate to like escape and/or become invisible?? General Sam Lane.
It’s late, but he couldn’t be bothered to care. A one track mind; Lois Lane. A tempted tease, a text just to dare him ------- and Clark was going to take it seriously, whether Ms. Lane believed him or not.
This was new, and for both of them. Feeling still so fresh, and yet so uncertain ----- even despite the messages. While yes, perhaps finding her number and actually reaching out to her had been one hell of a challenge ( nerves, and whatnot ) ------ knowing he was going to see her, for the first time since the world engine was, well, more pressure than he’d ever realized. A good kind of pressure; the kind that turns butterflies in the stomach into anxious churning ----- the kind that means he’s wanted nothing more than THIS. Does she really expect him to show up? Would she REALLY want him to? He has to believe that she does. She hasn’t lied to him yet. He hopes she never will. So the farm is left behind him in the blink of an eye; no suit this time. He’s casual: he’s Clark ----- country bumpkin from Smallville. Boots, jeans, flannel and a baseball cap to conceal unruly hair. Hair he maybe should have fixed a little more ------ my god, he was going to see her after all.
It wasn’t hard to find her, either. He’d gathered all of his information the way he always did ----- through good old research, and heightened senses such as sight, sound and feel. For a moment, it was nearly a struggle, but he found her fast. He was quiet with his landing; feet barely hovering off of the balcony. Curtains are drawn, but if he wanted he could still see past it. There’s a moment of apprehension; of fear ------------ but a rewarding breath brings him forward, tapping gently against the glass of the door after he’d sent her a simple text.

“You wanted to see me, Miss Lane?” Jimmy uttered as he came around the corner, two coffees in hand. It was as he had walked back into the building that he had heard that Lois was looking for him.
