Ashlyn is a masterpiece
Hi. I'm thinking about buying Ancillary Justice, but I'm not totally convinced yet. Can you name reasons why I should do it?
wow holy shit now i’m scared
off the top of my head:
because it’s fucking awesome
the world building is gorgeous
the characters are all morally gray.
ann leckie doesn’t fuck around with social justice at all and drops truth bombs all the time
the gender of the characters doesn’t matter. In most cases you don’t even know their biological sex. The main character’s first language doesn’t have gender markers of any kind and by translation convention “she/her” pronouns are used for every single character. Except when the MC needs to talk to people in languages where gender does matter.
the main character doesn’t take shit from anyone (except when she does. and those instances are frightening)
the book is about free will and identity and about what people do when everything they thought defined them is gone.
when characters meet they don’t automatically become friends and trust is not immediately given in any situation.
information about the plot:
the main character is the sentient AI of a giant spaceship belonging to an evil empire. The AIs such as this one not only lived inside an actual ship or station, but also inside hundreds of thousands of human bodies (formerly belonging to prisoners taken from the planets that had been conquered by the empire). 19 years before the start of the story something happened to this particular AI that 1)destroyed the ship and 2)left it with one human body. Now the AI (going by the name “Breq”) is trying to do… something.
Breq is a darling bb who is also kind of an unreliable almost omniscient narrator. It makes sense in context.
on the first page she saves an old acquaintance, someone she didn’t even like (for good reason. such an ass. #myfave), despite this being a major inconvenience. bc she’s a darling.
the AIs are all fucking awesome and have their own personalities, with likes and dislikes (including when it comes to the officers who serve aboard them. Sometimes if the ship thinks you’re a fucking asshole it will make your life harder, but in such a way that you won’t be able to tell that it’s doing it on purpose.)
3x11 of Leverage and I just can't anymore. I want to lie down... and think real hard about Eliot, Hardison and Parker doing it. But as Parker doesn't seem to be that interested in sex, maybe just Eliot and Hardison doing it and Parker watching and making weird, but adorable comments on their performance xD
i can see her three ways
asexual but not sex repulsed, watching her boys go at it and stroking their hair/chests during the act
sexual but not highly so, maybe kissing a lot, or oral? or maybe just masturbating while they go at it OOOOOOO i could see her doing that even if she actively participates, watching hardison pound spencer and letting him go down on her, guiding him with her fingers hellooooo
OR her really active and dirty, wearing them both up wassup
Inner Lesbian?
My sister has just told me today that one of her friends always thought I was lesbian. This isn't the first time it's happened. Too often many people think I'm lesbian. I always wondered why that is.
I think the turtle is the last touch to the petting zoo you have going on over there. What is the entrance fee and do you have a special price for groups?
nah man just come on it we’ve got it ALL dogs cats rats lizards (one) fish TURTLES (ok one turtle) and small children sometimes on weekends

Oh, good choices. But I meant from all the things Bear has done so far ;)
haha, sorry. I misunderstood you.
ughhhhhhhhh idk if I can choose.
:/
But just from the BSG soundtrack: The Shape of Things to Come, Kara's Coordinates, Gaeta's Lament (Instrumental), Martial Law, Baltar's Dream, Mandala in the Clouds etc.
straightasarainbow replied to your post: Can we agree on Bear being one of the best?
What is/are your favorite/s?
in no particular order: ennio morricone, alexandre desplat, harry gregson-williams and bear mccreary
Can we agree on Bear being one of the best?
there's literally no composition of his that I don't love
