how do you feel about the Oscars nomination
I’m upset.
The irony that the Academy wants us to think that Rocky is the best thing about a movie about Apollo Creed’s son… No Will Smith, No Abraham Attah, no Idris Elba, no Jason Mitchell… Coogler and Gray totally ignored? BENICIO DEL TORO, HELLO??? It’s insulting.
I can’t tell you how much doubt I had that my favorites would get ignored like Fury Road and Bridge of Spies but how can we just pretend that it makes sense to ignore Spike Lee’s Chi-Raq? I don’t understand how the Academy looked past the strong ensemble of Straight Outta Compton as if there’s anything special about The Big Short (besides it’s editing).
SO THANKFUL THAT SUFFRAGETTE ALMOST DIDN’T GET SHIT! Because holy hell how are we ignoring Tangerine???!!? How are we gonna pat Eddie Redmayne on the back while Kitana Kiki Rodriguez and Mya Taylor had some of the best on screen moments in one of the best movies of 2015??? They rather applaud a movie with a white cis actor in horribly obtuse adaptation playing a trans women while actual trans women of color are being pushed aside.
It makes no sense and of course before we have a moment to react people are already complaining on my Facebook about “PC blacklash”. These are people who DESERVE acknowledgement and it’s pretty impossible to ignore the obvious trend happening here when it comes to who was left out of the race this year (and last year, and last year, and last year)
