So I saw on tiktok that Palestinian journalist, Bisan Owda, has called for a boycott of Spider-Man: Brand New Day because its producer, Avi Arad, has publicly supported the genocide of the Palestinian people and has defended Netanyahu

I’m also seeing that there are posts about it on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, but I’m not seeing any posts about it on Tumblr? Am I not looking up the right keywords in the search bar or are we all out of the loop?

woc characters get put on a pedestal in their fandoms in a way that is so boring and itself kinda dehumanising. i dont just wanna hear about how they’re flawless queens, i want them to feel specific and real. and i understand why it happens, especially with younger fans, but fandom of these characters that’s oriented more around defending them from haters rather than engaging with them (beyond empty, repetitive adulation) is so… limiting and profoundly boring. you could explore these characters on their own merit instead you neglect any potential interiority, humanity, complexity in favour of letting rando haters be a hair trigger and building your faves up as impenetrable fortresses against them. and then its just girlboss with a coat of brown paint

Deadly egg recall

The FDA has upgraded an egg recall issued last month to “Class I,” its highest risk level, as it warns the public that consuming the products could cause “serious adverse health consequences or death.”

The recall of 1,589,577 dozen white-shell eggs and brown cage-free shell eggs was initially issued by Midwest Poultry Services in late July, which warned they might be contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis.

According to the company, the eggs were produced and distributed from farms in Texas between June 6 and July 3 and have sell-by or best-by dates between July 20 and August 17. The recalled egg cartons have either the code P-1950 or 0840962 and Julian Dates between 157-184.

Recalled eggs were shipped to foodservice and retail customers in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana.  Recalled eggs were available to consumers at Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana; Brookshire Grocery stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana, and other smaller retail and foodservice outlets in these states plus Mississippi and New Mexico.

Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and New Mexico are the currently affected states.

Okay so actually letting a serious topic be vague and confusing is much more scary for a child than explaining it in calm language they can understand.

When you are in a safe place, explain the serious topic in a way the child can understand.

The fire alarm went off at school today because of a mistake, but your teachers did the right thing to take you outside to be sure it was safe.

Some people use wheelchairs because their legs don’t walk very well. It can happen because they are old and tired, or because they got hurt, or because they were born that way.

Your Uncle Jerod talked to mom and dad, and wants you to call her Aunt Kari now. We will call her Kari too, and we can all practice together if it takes some getting used to.

Anticipate age-appropriate fears the child might have so you can assuage those that are not a threat.

Yes, Kitty died at the vet, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not safe for Puppy to go to the vet.

Yes, Peyton and Jo are getting a divorce, but they are both still part of our family and love you very much.

Yes, Grandma has cancer, but cancer is not contagious, so you are not going to get cancer by visiting her.

Anticipate fears that are realistic, and give the child clear direction about what to do, and what happens next.

If someone asks you to get in their car without permission, find Mom, Mama, or a teacher and tell them right away. We will make sure you are safe.

If Sparky’s sickness makes him hurt very badly, we are going to take him to the vet and she will give him some medicine, and he will die, but then he won’t hurt any more. Because Sparky is very sick, we are going to spend some special time with him over the next few days.

If the fire alarm goes off at school again, follow the teacher’s directions. If the fire alarm goes off and you are somewhere alone, go outside, and ask a grownup to call 911.

Reassure the child that they’re safe and loved, validate their feelings, and see if they have follow-up questions. Give them the option to take space to process, or to stay near you to feel safe.

I’m sad about Sparky too. Do you think we could make his favorite peanut-butter treats, while we are spending special time with him?

I understand why Grandma’s cancer makes you feel angry. It doesn’t seem fair that people we love get sick. Would you like a hug?

These things are principally the job of the child’s parent or guardian, but in some cases directing the child to that caregiver is difficult or impossible (parent refuses/confuses the child, parent is absent, child’s questions are specific and relevant to a situation their parent was not present for, etc.) so I think all adults should be prepared to have these conversations with kids.

In the school setting, this includes having an age appropriate conversation about the emergency procedures at school- including intruder drills. If you don't talk about it, and then have one, the kids are terrified. Its still scary when we have it, but telling the kids and doing a mini practice, helps them feel more secure and safe.

To all those who ask me "how do you deal with all this", can I finally admit that it actually is extremely hard to always have to be the one that Fights, knowing that no one else is going to do it for me? 😅 Sometimes I think y'all see me as that Strong Black Woman, and y'all hold me to higher standards.

I have feelings, too. I am a human being.

I don't want any more apologies for the racist experiences I go through. What I want, is to feel safe.

I want my society to be safer, for my people. Or at least for people to know it should be.

But if I can't have that safety without fighting for it- unless any of you wanna step into the ring- allow me to feel what I'm feeling and to regenerate when I need to. No, we don't get 24/7 access to me to address everyone else's needs no matter what; I am accessible when I can be, and that's okay. Please and thank you. 🙏🏾
