Summery: the character Isla gets haunted by a Haitian deity. Character is black (Haitian American).
Warning: supernatural violence, and blood.
As I went inside, the image of the black sand flashes through my mind, but I pushed it aside and changed into my witch costume that I made. Then I placed a old witch hat on my head. After dressing up, I grabbed my backpack that was givin' to me from my dad.
When I entered the kitchen, my mom was preparing breakfast on the table. "Look at you, all ready for Halloween," she says, her voics warm and affectionate. "That costume is adorable, honey. Did you make it yourself?"
I nod, a small smile tugging at my lips. "Yeah, I did. It's nothing special,"
"Nothing special? It's fantastic! Your so talented," my mom replies, her eyes sparkled with pride. She turns back to the stove flipping pancakes. "Eat something before you go. you need your energy."
I grab a pancake, smothering it in syrup and took a bite. The sweetness is comforting, a small moment of normalcy. I glanced out the window, the sky was still dark with the lingering shadows of the night. Angela bounced into the kitchen, her eyes wide with excitement. "Are you really going to school dressed like that?" She asked gesturing to you're costume.
"Of course," I say, grinning. "It's Halloween. What else would I wear?"
"But... with everything that's going..." Angela trails off, her voice mixed with concerne.
"Exactly! With everything that's going, we need a little bit of normal," you retort, with a smirk. "Besides, maybe my costume will give some edge against the monsters,"
My mom chuckles, shaking her head. "Just be careful, okay? And stick together."
"Always," Me and Angela reply in unison.
I finished my pancakes and grabbed my magenta backpack. My sister followed behind me. The morning air is crisp and cold, carrying the scent of fallen leaves and woodsmoke. As you walk towards the car, you can't shake the feeling of being watched. I clutched the glass fragment in my backpack pocket, that was safely placed in a black garbage bag. I'm a witch, ready or not. I can do this. I can save the world. I'm ready today.

I fumbled with the locker combination till the lock clicked open. I quickly retrieved a hefty human anatomy book. As I entered the science classroom, Mr. Clarke was already at his desk fiddling with some equipment. I take my usual seat next to the window, flipping through the diagrams and opened my human anatomy book to page forty-five. A few minutes later, a redhead girl walks in, her eyes darting around the room. She seems out of place, a stranger in a familiar setting. Mr. Clarke greets her with a smile, calling her "Maxene," but she visibly bristles at the name. The air hangs heavily with awkwardness. The other students trickle in, their eyes drawn to the redhead. Whispers ripple through the room, and I can sense her discomfort growing. After what feels like an eternity, the bell ring, signaling the end of class. Students quickly packed their bags and left. I stayed for a moment, watching the redhead gather her things. She avoided eye contact, her movements stiff and deliberate. I almost approached her, wanting to say hello, but my nerves got the best of me. I smiled sympathetically instead and walked out. I made a mental note to try again tomorrow. Maybe then I'll find the courage to break the ice. I know how it feels to be an outsider. I know how it feels to be a odd person. I'm a witch. It's hard to believe, but it's true.

At home, I sat on the sheets next to my bed with a pillow infront of me. A book of dark Wicca sat gracefully in my hands. The pages moved like the wind as I held my right hand above it. When I saw a pitcher of a man with paint on his face, I stopped. In the drawing he hald a bow staff. He looked intimidating and crazy. I seen him befor, last year in Hatii on vacation. A evil lady stole his rib and put it in my cabin. She turned out to be his goon, working along side him. I didn't find out until it was too late. So, now I'm cursed this year.
After I shut the black book, I started to fill cold, like the house dropped down to thirty-nine degrees. Then I hurd a man's voice. "Issssla..." It was Baron Samedi.
As I stood up and moved to the corner behind my bed, some kind of green mist floated through my window and lingered under my nose. It smelt like death and stones. I immediately closed my nose. The nasty mist swirled around my dress and hat.
