Change in Idea

After developing a blank film, it was my plan to reshoot some black and white 35mm film, however, because I had not yet done a shot after developing an unsuccessful film I decided to head out with my digital camera and spontaneously shoot with the idea of Strange Environments to see what I came up with. My test shoot was very successful and I believe I produced some of my strongest outcomes yet - the work is of the rooftops of architecture and very minimalist. I have decided to stick with this idea as I feel that I could develop this much further and produce a really in depth project. I need to use digital format for these shoots because they require a lot of manipulation in Photoshop, therefore, I am no longer going to reshoot my film but rather carry on with this idea; you could say that my blank film was a happy accident in me discovering this new concept.

Evaluation

I am happy with my work produced from these shoots. I think that the edit has helped bring out the light beams making the lights look more cinematic and less light standard street lights. I like how the different coloured lights works together.  The flash comes out a cold blue and the tungsten street lights give a warm yellow, these are complimentary colours so make each other stand out. Although I think some of the portrait images have worked well I am not sure whether to use them as I don’t know if the main photos need them. If I was to do this shoot again I think I would put more emphasis on the set up of the scene and use more furniture to push this idea further. I am happy with the with the work I have produced through this project and feel I have learnt about using external flash guns.
