When people think of something bad, or good, why do they always think of something extreme or “exaggerated”?
For example, you think of harassment. Many people think constant stalking, physical abuse, something visible and direct. Is it because it’s something you see more directly, something out of place?
Thats not really my question, though. People can acknowledge it, but you see that a lot of people typically think of the more intense situations first, even though they can be way more less likely than indirect(?) harassment.
Is it because indirect harassment is something that’s harder to spot, something harder to understand? Or is it because of how they were taught? Ex. The visible/clear signs, what they were taught firsy, etc.
Is it smth rather more complex and complicated? Or is it just something its hard to be confident with since it’s a somewhat tricky topic to learn abt within harassment, abuse, etcetc.
I just kinda noticed it. Whenever we’d do this class activity, people would always mention extreme situations.
Theres this thing in class we’d do, it’d be where u go to a corner that says mildly agree, strongly agree, mildly disagree, and strongly disagree. The teacher would put up a topic up on the screen, something like, “it’s good to judge by appearance,” smth like that right? And i remember this girl saying, “well, if he’s a homeless man with a gun that threatens to k-ll people….” Well obviously nobody would go near him … AND dont get me wrong im not saying anyones stupid or anything, i just noticed throughout the entire debate session, and other topics, people always thought something extreme.
But why? It kinda confuses me and i kinda wanna see how others think ! Could other reasons be because people normally see these types of less extreme situations happen a lot?
Maybe im overlooking it but i wanna know the more in depth reasonin😞😞
