Mike, Will, Lucas, Dustin, and Max live in the small beach town of Hawkins, California. At the end of summer, Will’s moving back in with his shitty dad in a city miles away, making this their last summer together.

Meanwhile, El, a mermaid, has always longed to explore the human world. She makes a deal with her overbearing father, Brenner: she has 3 days to prove that true love exists, otherwise she’ll be forced to marry a merman she doesn’t love and stay in the sea forever.

In a violent storm, El washes onshore and winds up in the Wheeler’s swimming pool. The gang finds her the next morning. El tells them what she needs to do, and informs them that helping a mermaid will grant them one wish. The kids decide to help make someone fall in love with El, that way they can use their wish to keep Will in Hawkins.

They decide to set her up with Steve Harrington (the kids being 15/16 and Steve being 17/18), and though it all starts going according to plan, Mike can’t help but feel conflicted as his own feelings towards El begin to grow…

stranger things AU moodboards: Let the Sun In 

While the Hopper-Byers family is financially comfortable, when it comes to the comforts of their own home, they’re infamously disorganized. To help clean things up, Hopper hires 17 year-old Mike Wheeler to work around the house for the summer. During the day, Hopper and Joyce work. Jonathan’s moved out. Will’s at Art Camp. El’s left to spend the summer lounging around her bedroom... ...And maybe, kinda, sorta spying on Mike.

In which 16 year-old El Hopper teams up with her best friend (and maybe, kinda, sort of crush) Mike Wheeler to investigate and solve cases throughout Indiana.

So, a Mileven Au loosely inspired by Nancy Drew. Aka, what me and Ely talk about when we should be sleeping. Some of these are directly copied and pasted from our chat. Enjoy! 

El, taking after her dad Hopper, loves solving mysteries. Mike is hopelessly crushing on her and willing to help her with every case, no matter the risk. 

Their cases can range from the small (tracking down Mrs. Henderson’s cat) to the dangerous (busting murders, smuggling rings, and bad guys galore). 

El casually solves more cases than her dad, much to his reluctant pride.

El’s always getting on Hopper’s cast like ‘WHY AM I DOING YOUR JOB FOR YOU’ and Hopper’s like ‘IT WAS A STOLEN LOAF OF BREAD AND SOME PRETZELS EL’ 

Mike writes up their case reports and delivers them to Hopper. While he’s typing them up, El usually hovers nearby and makes sure that Mike leaves out all the details like how she and Mike nearly died multiple times and stuff.   

El is so focused on her cases she’s completely oblivious to Mike’s very obvious crush. 

El has all these detective supplies: a magnifying glass, trench coat, tape recorder -- all that business. Mike carries some of it for her, happy to be a sidekick. 

Mike also likes goofing around with her supplies. One time when El’s in a pouty mood, Mike takes the magnifying glass and is like ‘today we’re investigating how you’re so adorable HAHA’ and El is like ‘you’re so dumb’ but low-key she’s blushing.

One time during a case, El’s struggling but Mike points out/discovers and important clue and El is like “OMG YES MIKE! You’re so incredible I could kiss you!” And mike is like uhhhhhhhhhh.

Also just this random image of like El and Mike being tied to something while a baddie rants about his evil plan and El is just giving him The Stare while Mike tries to stay calm. 

One time they’re in like a life or death situation, like trapped in something that’s like filling with water or some shit IDK and Mike is like ‘omg we’re gonna die I have to tell you something’. And El is like focused on trying to get them out and is just like ‘cool uh huh.’ And Mike starts going on this long ass rambling speech about how much El means to him and how he likes her so much and how great she is. But just as he’s about to CONFESS HIS FEELINGS, El breaks them free! And she’s like ‘now, what were you going to say?’ And Mike is like ‘....nothin.’

Once Mike finally works up the courage to confess his feelings, he sets up this entire pretend case for El about some big mystery and it ends with El finding him in the empty classroom where they first met surrounded by motherfucking candles (The Most Extra 15 year old ever) and he’s like ‘did you figure it out yet?’  El gets all pissy and starts like hitting his chest like ‘I can’t believe you, you knucklehead! You had me all worried for nothing just so you could do this adorable thing and I can’t BELIEVE you would—‘And then Mike just KISSES HER MIDSENTENCE

Once they start dating, Mike is a mUSHY SAP. HE CAN’T BE STOPPED.  El: I can’t believe this, it’s been two weeks since anyone committed a crime.  Mike: Bullshit, you have  El: E X C U S E  Mike, grinning: Being that cute is totally illegal.  El: omg Mike: You’ve stolen my heart.  El: ENOUGH

Mike: 😘😘😘😘 El, trying to study pictures of the crime scene and some evidence: Mike omg stop  Mike: 😍, 😘😘😘

El: Anyway, I think this guy could be our culprit. I saw him lurking around the scene of the crime and he looked suspicious. Mike: hmmmm I think you could be right. Maybe we should go make out to make sure. El: what

High-key El loves her sappy BF though.  Mike: 😘😘😘😘 El: stopppppppppp  Mike: [pouts and stops, goes over to the couch] El, literally 2 seconds later: [comes over and starts kissing him] where did you go I missed you 

Once they are older they continue to travel the country and solve cases and help people and have wonderful mystery-filled lives it’s great they’re great wow
