You are being listened to

Okay so I had a phone call with a loved one today and it is someone who has mild cognitive impairment. I am very worried about this person. 

Anyway I called them and they proceeded to say the same 6 or 7 sentences to me VERBATIM over and over, 5 times. 

I swear I don’t know how I didn’t lose the plot completely. I thought “this is it the meaning in their life has been sucked out and there is only goldfish life left”. I kept holding it together as long as I could and then I thought “No I have to hang up and maybe I can reset her brain”. 

So I called back and the first thing she says is “oh I’ve been trying to call you back but I couldn’t get through”. At first I thought that this might be in the last 5 seconds that it took me to hang up and redial but NO! Somehow she was on a loop. The phone had disconnected but the last few sentences that she said to me were on some sort of a loop and kept repeating themselves.

WTF?

How could that happen? Her first question was “do you think people are listening in?” I didn’t have the heart to reply that we are not that interesting.
