I thought it was going to storm (it’s been well over 30° with the humidex and I’m melting) but the clouds seem to have smoothed out so much I can’t distinguish them from the wildfire smoke. There’s a little structure left right above me but nothing to signify any relief from the heat

Unfortunately, this looks to be a nimbostratus cloud (with stratus fractus and cumulus fractus clouds too), which are usually signs of a warm front. Though, cumulonimbus clouds are often found embedded in nimbostratus clouds, so not impossible for a storm to happen later! (Not that this is applicable anymore)

Hopefully things cool off soon, and the fires get doused fast! Good spotting!

It looks like we have stratus fractus clouds, and if you look closely in the corner, what looks to be a rather tall nimbostratus cloud.

This looks like altocumulus stratiformis and stratus fractus clouds.

Hello! I love your blog, could you help me identify these clouds i saw in 2020? They scared me at first because i thought it looked like a tornado (i live in a place where tornadoes simply never occur, or maybe they do and I am unaware of it). A friend assured me that it definetly isn't a tornado and wasn't going to turn into one but i would still like to know what this was. Thank you for everything you do!

Your friend is right, that is definitely not a tornado. That's a Pannus, also known as a scud cloud, which is a ripped up and detached or semi-detached fractus cloud! Though, this one does definitely look a bit tornado-like, I will say, it's definitely safe! The underneath of the cloud has just been torn asunder is all.

What’s that one? Looks weird!

This one was a tricky one! But I think it may just be a very odd looking Stratus Fractus cloud. It looks like it's the result of a Virga, especially considering the clouds behind look to be Stratocumulus (maybe lenticularis? can't find my glasses right now so I'll confirm later) with virga.

But either way, this cloud looks cool as hell!! Good spotting!
