Virga, the phenomenon of rain not reaching the ground. Virga is produced when rain is falling from the base of the cloud but evaporates in dry air before reaching the ground surface.
When virga evaporates, it cools the surrounding air. This cooler, heavier air can rush downward and create strong winds near the ground—sometimes forming a dry microburst even though little or no rain actually reaches the surface.
We report: this is a virga under the altocumulus, made of sublimating ice crystals. This is precipitation which, unlike the rain we have been seeing lately, will not reach the ground. We think this will not exempt us from the rain - we see darker clouds moving our way.

on a side note, i went on a deep dive about lightning and thunder yesterday, and i learned about the cloud type cumulonimbus flammagenitus (one of your fav clouds if i remember correctly?), super interesting stuff!
I'm doing alright, thanks! Yes, flammagenitus (aka pyrocumulus, which is a cool as hell name), is my favourite! The way it forms is so fascinating!!!
Image 1 has cumulus congestus and cirrus spissatus clouds.
Image 2 has cirrus spissatus fluctus with virga, cirrus uncinus homomutatus and cirrostratus nebulosus.
Now, that little wormlike cloud could be one of a few things I think! What i think is most likely is a virga being pushed around by some strong winds. It's still odd, especially given how localised and long it is, but still very much possible!
