mandy didn’t have to say anything for aksel to know something horrible had happened. she was usually so tough and it hurt to see her like this. but he’d sat beside her the whole time, giving her the space she needed but staying close enough for her to know that he would always protect her. he hadn’t expected her to respond, honestly, just wanted her to know. “don’t,” he said softly. “stay. we can make....make, um, space for you. you shouldn’t have to go back to that.”

gwen was way too polite to try and wiggle out of the conversation with the deputy that used to work under her dad, telling her how she must miss him and they were going to get whatever superhero “freak” was behind it. maybe iggy could see the awkward nodding when he invited her to dance, which she instantly said yes to and went with him. “your timing was perfect, thank you!” gwen grabbed his shoulder and his hand while she thanked him. “you’re actually really good at this. were you ever going to tell me you could dance?” she was surprised she hasn’t stepped on iggy’s toes yet.

at first, he thought mandy was going to step on his toes. but she was actually reaching for him when the music was going. he understood what she was doing. he placed one hand on her back and another on her shoulder, trying to awkwardly remember how to dance. his dad taught him at one point. that didn’t mean he was good at it. he awkwardly chuckled when he started to sway. “are you nervous? you don’t dance?” milo asked, just because he was curious. he didn’t mind her on his feet. “don’t worry, you’re doing good.” he meant it too. “i didn’t know you liked to dance, mandy.”
