The Neglectful's still a little dude in grief because what else?? but yeah, on average wandering yucca are like 20ft. neg liddle.
Okay so I made em a mix of that one scene in rango where the yucca all turn to the screen and have glowing faces, cacturne, and the cactus cat! the cat's really only included because they grow spines under their leaves and just sorta shows up n dips whenever but sh.
anyways, their species is highly social and sorta function like low energy coyotes? in daylight they'll absorb whatever sun and water they can like normal yuccas and they'll stick with eachother when they can n scavange anything unfortunate enough to perish in the desert at night, despite this most of the time they'll recognize humanoid figures as their own and try to push them to follow into their migration pattern, often mistaking them for infants but killing them in the long journey via starving or dehydration. a way to avoid such a fate is to try to the best of your abilities to indicate that you have different needs and hope they're quick to understand. in daylight it's not uncommon to find them crouching over any puddles in the area or making a ring around the smallest members of the group to keep them from any potential harm. there are three ways of reproduction avaliable to the species but im only gonna mention the plant based ones soo. hm. pollination n cutting are always an option if you ever want to see mini yucca monsters roaming around the home at night?
the next section started out as an explanation but turned into a draft sorry ):
cryptid!neglectful came to be when they separated from their group to help a lost human get back home. They'd sit over her and keep her protected from the sun, let her cut off their spines so she wouldn't get hurt during the journey, and occasionally allowed her to peek out in the day to mess with the leaves on their head. Unfortunately they never made it back in time, their leaves only held so much water in them. Now far from any of the familiar trails they wandered through towns attempt to return the hat from the girl in a last ditch effort to something right before loneliness eventually got the best of them n kicked it. The neglectful's only lucky maybe twice a year and the last of it was used figuring out they were edible to humans. Lame. Anyways, they wandered into another monster's territory and alerted it at the wrong time. As it turns out having glowing eyes and the height of two Shaqs is considered a threat and earns two horns to the chest! Most of your spines had grown back in at this point and were lodged into the attacker, giving you enough time to escape before waking up in a large flat cave? Too much light. The holes at the entrance were big but too small for you to get out of yourself without some serious mutilation. It takes a minute of looking around to notice a human on the other side of the holes, at least you think it's human? It has the fur on top but it's grey. and missing limbs. It looked at you expectantly. kneeling and cranning down your neck to try to listen seemed to startle it and you'd back away in return to see if it needed space. Taking a longer look at you, looking for something?- drew something on it's little slate and started to speak. It was hard to hear at the moment even with the close proximity and you couldn't guess how it was feeling with the way it's mouth was covered and red eyes fixed in a glare. After some time it'd seem to give up on talking and pointed at the hat. You point as well in an attempt to confirm... Something? And it nods,
"Yes." FINALLY SOME WORDS YOU UNDERSTAND. Your leaves rattle and a hand darts through the bars to pull him into the cave with you and hold him oh so close!!
"Let go! Now!" Ah. More words you know. Happy rattles stop immediately when it cries out in pain and you carefully peel it off and set it on the ground to see what happened- ah. spines. You place the hat over it carefully and call out for help in the meantime- You hope there's someone else around..
