A close derivative of the ringtail and unicorn strain is one I am tentatively calling ‘ringers’. One of the laterations that sets them apart is that, while they have a developed Tell (a brain at the end of the tail with its own skull casing, making it quite heavy), it also has fortified vertebra and bone plating to allow for a sturdier area onto which mobility devices can be attached.
Plain walking ribbons aren’t good for stability and so folks eventually put the ribbons around sturdier frames (like recycled bones). The frames are then encased (usually in thick fabric or in skins) and the space is padded. For aesthetics, and to help keep the ‘legs’ in place, ribbons and fabric are wound around the sweep between the legs, often resembling an andomen.
Putting helmets on Tells is common because you don’t want to hit your second head against anything, now do you? More seriously, it's to help stifle venom leakage and is a courtesy towards others, particularly when you're a guest. Some walker designs are made to look like a critter following you around, with some leaning into the spook (which I did not draw, the right two are just very simple designs. A fancier one is below).
(Here's a sketch, the character is a Ren alternate from the timeline subcluster 9a.)
In a more complete drawing, both the false and real feet would have shoes. Ren's fur is shaved mid ankle (and stops above the top of her feet) to allow for footwear. The fur itself is an addition to this strain to serve for further fire resistance. Because reasons.
