Tail go whippy!
Unfinished, but this is how I get images across devices. Midland Vulps are about four to five generations into the loss of their homelands.
Again, I wanted to keep Earth unique, so only with us is it so easy to adapt one's environment to their means or craft tools for themselves. Most of Vulpin has no hardwood equivalent, meaning using fire for heat isn’t a reliable option. The intense magnetic field make the invention of electricity impossible, so instead they developed genetic engineering of both theirselves and of the flora/fauna around them.
Regarding their selves, in order to stabilize their populations, those who went north (or who left the ‘Midland’ country) are often derided as being hybrids or wholly new species, having borrowed genetic materials from other clades to adapt theirselves to the new environments.
Something I'm now realizing is that the advent of these particular adaptions renders them more likely to cross each other territories, meaning they might very well have invented war (or are on their way to do so).
(Note: sunlight almost never penetrates the dense layers of atmosphere, meaning most of the heat comes from borderline-magic vents from underground. Or something. ANYWAY it means a local climate is very small, with it being rather easy to accidentally walk from a mercilessly scorching savannah and into a subzero tundra. This is part of the reason for why the clades were so isolated up until the last hundred years.
Other species have not similarly altered themselves and are still living largely in their ancestral homes. There will come a day when they need more space to account for population size, but that has yet to come.)
(I opted not to colour these, since the humid air is making my screen a little uncomfortable to draw against.)
I think I'm getting the hang of drawing Rook. Someone described him as “Furby” like and I find tue comparison delightful. Rook's armor helps to distort his silhouette into something more human-like, and as an adult he has taken to wearing specialized shoes to help offset the strain imposed by living and working in a human society, as his own is far less constant in its activities.
Tangentially, his has much less fat, since they don’t need immediate energy localized to the muscles. Their muscles are thinner as well, being made of different, more efficient materials than those of earth lifeforms. They are considerably tall and gangly, their evolution dependent on their singular food source (those amber fruits).
Humans, comparatively, are squishy, climby, clingy creatures built around pursuit predation and spontaneity. We have had many predators and are the predators of many more. Revonnahganders' only have competition with one other species and it is over their mutually sought food source.
Revonnahgander necks are about as long as their torsos and their arms reach as for as their knees. Humans have looong torsos housing many organs, several of which exist to control for and filter out toxins/bacteria. Revonnah has very few microbials, so there was much less of a need for such parts.
Humans are high energy, highly sociable, and incredibly verbal. Ben is an AuDHDer, so there's a hand in the scale, but there is still considerable difference between how Rook and Ben express and perceive.
Image description: Ben and Rook are standing next to each other in two images. Ben is only as tall as Rook's shoulder in each image. In the first, Ben has one arm looped around Rook's as he chats amicably. On the right, Ben is twining his tail around Rook's ankle and tapping his arm, saying something boisterous as Rook watches with a perturbed look on his face.
Thump, thump, thump, thu-
The stretchy midlength (the sweep) is there to absorb shock and connect the Tell to the main body.
Comparison of movement. Ren (Found Vessel) has a basal (tail moves similarly to an otter or dolphin) and a Tell (that big bit at the end, moves mainly via its electromagnetic field rather than through muscle).
Have a comparison shot:
Ren is zoned out in their own little world, being playfully pestered by Cujo, and the two in-progress pieces are an experiment in how Ren percieves her surroundings and how others see him.
In the first image, Ren's headphones are the same colour as the background, drawing a barrier between him and all that is around her. Cujo is portrayed as a more realistic puppy, shaded and slightly coloured. The background observer (Drew Saturday) is lost to the surroundings.
In the second image, Ren is seen from behind, inhuman features given central focus. Here, Cujo is seem as more akin to a blob rather than an actual animal. The observer is unseen, as she is from which the perspective comes.
