The road to recovery || closed for strawberrynik
The shock of seeing his family slaughtered by his own father's hand would have given anyone a shock. The carnage that had littered his travels was nothing compared to what awaited him at his own house. Maybe it was because anything he had seen dead hadn't been people Jake had actually known. The people weren't exactly his favorite people, but he had known them nonetheless.
The house had been filled with such horror that it still haunted his dreams as if it all had happened the day before. The mental wounds were still so fresh that Jake found himself waking up in the middle of the night screaming and cold sweat running down his back. The dreams took him back to a place he never wanted to revisit. The nightmare was over so why wasn't he happy about it? The man the tormented him was dead. All his life thought, Jacoby thought his father was this tough, strong beast of a man that would tear down anyone in his path, but what Jake found said the opposite. Suicide had been the way out for the man and his wife. His father had shot his mother and then took his own life. Even in his darkest days, Jake couldn't bear the thought of taking such an easy cowardly way out. The streets after leaving his childhood home were abandoned like everywhere else. Even the walkers had moved on when no activity could be heard. There were random ones here or there, but nothing Jake could take care of. His feet carried him down the road as he ran as far away from that place as he could. The emotion finally setting in and his stomach wanted to purge anything he had eaten that morning. How could he feel such raw emotion for someone so vile, who had been the bane of his existence his entire life. Jake had always dreamed for the day he could escape and he finally could. Why wasn't he jumping for joy? It was because no matter what treatment he received Jacoby was still pure of heart and he didn't have a mean bone in his body. So he would run until he felt far enough away and could forget everything. Finally he stopped to catch his breath a couple roads down, but still in the same subdivision. What the hell was he doing? He couldn't just wander randomly. It wasn't smart. He had to remember that walkers were the real threat.

Born To Die || Nik & Shane
Shane hurried across the open field, large rain drops had started to fall. When one hit the back of his hand, he quickened his pace. The storm clouds looked like they might hold hail. After his latest conversation with Lori, he'd gone off on his own to check the fences. He needed to get his head straight. Things weren't going to end well if they continued in this way.
Then there was Rick. He would do anything for him, but their relationship had taken a nasty turn, and every time they interacted now they seemed closer to a physical altercation. It hadn't mattered that he'd risked everything to save Carl's life. Hell, Rick didn't even know the half of it.
Shane ducked his head, pulling his ball cap lower as the rain came down more steadily now. He could just make out the porch and took the steps two at a time, landing with a thump on the porch itself, his hands pressed to his knees as he caught his breath.
