Run
Sorry, this one took so long! I took some time to get my confidence back into my writing. I know it's short but I'll be back to my normal length stories in a bit! In the meantime, I hope anyone who reads this likes it. Shout out to @browngyalwriting for her help with editing! If you haven't seen her blog yet check it out!
A long groan escaped my lips as my friends and I rounded the corner to my home. The number of familiar cars parked out in front of my driveway told me there was nothing good going on here. My feet began to mechanically drag against the pavement as we drew near to the building and four pairs of eyes turned in my direction.
“Nessa, is something going on?”
“Is everything okay?”
They mean well, I know, but the attention on me could only make the situation worse. This family of mine had a bad habit of gathering over trivial things. Do I seriously need to be present every time my fifteen-year-old cousin places second in a track race?
Upon reaching the door I reluctantly sent my friends away. Their worried faces would distort quickly if they found out the real reason they gathered here. It was probably stupid anyway.
The commotion that had been evident through the door came to an abrupt halt as I opened it and my presence was made known. By now I was getting tired of all these eyes focusing on me. Raking my eyes across the room every face I was met with was familiar, but different? The joyful expressions my family members adorned on their faces were somehow off as if they were all lying through their teeth at me.
Before I could close the door to comment on the oddity something crashed into me. Arms wrapped around my frame rendering my hands useless to push the offending body away.
“Shh!” A harsh whisper. it was demanding and firm, not usually something I expect from my sister, who now had me trapped in place.
“Look calm and listen to me.” As I listened closely as her voice was trembling. Was she scared?
“When I let go, run for your life.”
