so the thing about Daye (both original and the other au versions) is that they've developed a kind of apathy about bad things happening to them, bc as long as the harm doesn't stick, they can just put it out of their mind, let it stay in their nightmares

it's not a complete apathy, to be clear. they still experience fear, especially if it's related to a more recent death/trauma, but there's still a level of recklessness that makes people worry

so it's kind of a shock when their friends (who don't know they can't die permanently) confront them about how it seems like they're trying to get themself killed

they just never quite processed that their deaths were really hard for the people around them, but it's hard to reassure people without revealing their actual power, the one thing they really need to keep secret, for their own safety
