Okay does anyone know how to help stray cats that's not adopting them yourself?
There's a stray that keeps hanging around our back garden and the best I've been able to do is a bowl for water and a plate for our meat scraps, and a ply board that we lean against the wall as a sort of shelter from rain
I've had a couple bad experiences with the local animal shelters.
Guys I strongly ask you to help out stray animals when you see one. It may not be convenient for you. You might think "oh their owner will find then eventually or someone else will find them." But what if that doesn't happen? Animals are living breathing creatures the same as us. Stays have homes, families. They're scared and lost.
Imagine this, you see a little girl running around out in public, no family to be seen, she's lost, confused, she might even approach someone for help. I believe in my heart that the average person would help this child, take her to authorities to help, look after her until someone else can do their part for her. So why is it any different for animals?
If you come across a stray, do not approach it if it is aggressive. But if you sense there's a type of mutual trust between you and the dog or cat, try calming it down. Do not take it to a shelter unless you know it's a non-kill shelters. Many shelters "dispose" of an animal after a certain amount of days because they don't have the funds to keep every animal that gets brought in. I'm not asking you to take some random animal into your household (unless that's what you decide is right then by all means do so). I'm asking you to leave out a blanket on your porch, some food, post photos of the animal online asking if it belongs to anyone. Don't forget to check if they have a collar. Most cases the collar will have tags with the pets name and owners either address or phone number. If that's the case then bingo bango bongo you're done. But don't give up on strays.
I've had my fair share of strays and even just neighborhood cats. At my old house there was a kitten we named Mocha. Mocha terrorized the HELL out of my older cat through the window. Due to our oldest cats street days he's a very timid boy and does not like others on his property. But we made sure we fed Mocha and always left out a blanket for him. We wanted to bring Mocha to a non-kill shelter but could never catch him. At least we got to watch him grow from an overly skinny kitten to a well nourished adult.
Yesterday, at around 10pm I was sitting outside during the thunderstorm on my porch with my dad, brother and little dog. Just then a female husky ran up to our porch seeking shelter. We put my dog inside as she's aggressive towards larger dogs and just stood there baffled at what to do with the little lady husky. Then her who we identified as her brother because he was also a husky and had the same type of collar showed up ten minutes later. They had gotten out of there house and were seeking shelter from the storm. Their collars had no tags so we didn't know what to do. We walked up and down our street trying to figure out which house was there's despite the rain and how late it was. We had no luck. Eventually we had to go inside so we put out several blankets for them. They ended up taking back off. But about twenty minutes ago I saw the male back on our porch, clearly separated from his sister again. I went outside to feed him, ignoring the fact that it's passed 1am. To my knowledge he is still there and I hope his sister comes back. I wish we could take them inside but due to our cats and dog we sadly cannot. I'm wishing they are there in the morning so we can further look for their owner.
So please, even if you can only do a little bit, do what you can when you come across a stray pet. Don't just write it off as "oh someone else will do it" because they might not. And who's to know what will happen to the poor things if no one helps.

ever since that blue eyed white kitty stumbled at the area behind our house, i kinda want a place where kitties can stay. obviously, its not going to be where my mom would see cause she's gonna shoo them away at sight.
if there is anything i know about cats is that they like boxes. so i thought, why not leave one at my window where my mom won't see.
its been raining lately and last night i heard some noises. i didn't really check since its gonna be dark anyway. sounds of cats and humans sounds walking on top of tin roofing are different and it was obviously a cat.
this morning, though it was quiet, and the only sound you'll hear outside is the rain, i randomly decided to check if there is a cat on the box. and there is.
i normally would hear sounds on our roof but this is actually the first time i check. in a while at least. the first time i placed the box there, there were already movements. but when i checked, the cat got startled and i don't want that to happen again.
rest easy kitty.
7pm: its already dark. i needed to check my phone if its been fully charged. i thought, 'i wonder if kitty is still sleeping'. i didn't want to but it'll be too dark if the lights are off. i quietly turned the lights on and silently opened my curtain. to my surprise, he is sitting inside the box facing the window. he definitely saw me. he instantly jumped off the box and all i can say is 'sorry'. i unplugged the charger. seriously, sorry for bothering you kitty...
9am: today is laundry day. as soon as went out the back, i saw it trying to hangout on top of the storage shelf. maybe because it saw me, it went away. while filling the waching machine, i went inside the house to wash the dishes. after that i came back out to start the machine and the next thing i knew it was on the floor. it went underneath another storage shelf. i checked on it every now and then while i do the laundry and it mainly slept.
3pm: i checked if the cat is still there and it is sitting out in the open. i took the opportunity to take this photo. its eyes are pretty and its fur are all white.
5pm: i checked it again after a while and it just wondered out there and meowed, so i left again. maybe it was annoyed that i kept checking out on him. i read that cats sometimes hide themselves when they are weak and about to pass. kitty doesn't look like that at all.
6pm: its kinda dark now and when i opened the lights at the back, its still there. i think it went down and couldn't figure out how to go back up. i left it there. i didn't want to bother it.
8pm: its really dark at the back now and its still there. it was sitting out. i didn't try to approach it nor did i try to touch it, but as soon as i squatted down, it approached on its own. it even let me pet it. i think it's still young since it is still on the smaller side.
for a while i stayed there, it was walking around me and rubbing its body against my legs and the things around us. i think it was marking me. at some point, i think it was trying to get inside the house.
i don't want to take it in, i don't want to take care of cats, it worries me. since this is a stray cat, there's a possibility that it would go out for days. it would bring me stress if it doesn't go home. honestly, i kinda want to keep it, i'm weak to animals. i was so close to ask my mom if we can keep it. i'm not the only person that lives in this house, i have to consider their opinion too. to add to that, my mom and younger bro have a history of asthma. and though we have a little bit of a mice problem, i think having a pet in this moment is not a good idea.
since it was letting me pet it and carry it, i put it on the roof where i first saw it. for a while i stayed there until it started to walk away.
in the future when i'm a bit more financially stable and you decide to come back, i'll take you in. for now, please survive or find someone capable of taking care of you. godspeed kitty!
bonus: as i'm typing this, i can see movement on our roof. if its you kitty, you are welcome to stay there.
