Note from Author: So, this is my first reader insert and I feel like I should say that I didn't really expect this drabble to be this long. Haha! I got super nervous about mixing up the point of views, so forgive me if there's anything needing correcting! This drabble was based on the imaginexhobbit anon request that you can find Here. Besides that, I hope you enjoy this, my lovelies!

You're backside ached as it knocked repeatedly against the saddle which was set atop on the pony you were riding. The constant trotting of the pony seemed sometimes to lull you almost to sleep, and then having someone from the Company shake you until you woke from your dozing off. But today you didn't feel exhausted as you usually would. Last night you had an unusually good sleep as you had lain down against the tree and had fallen asleep to one of Bofur's humorous stories, even with the eruption of laughter, you managed to drift into a peaceful slumber.
You, the dwarves and your dear friend Bilbo Baggins, had been travelling non-stop for the day, taking breaks only for food and water. You let out a sigh of relief as you heard the deep-voiced call of Thorin saying to make camp atop a hill just ahead.
As you sat down heavily against the grass, you adjusted yourself so that you're back was resting against the rough log of a tree whilst Dwalin prepared a fire. The sun had set merely minutes ago, and with the sinking golden glow, the dwarves were preparing their bedrolls. You giggled at the sight of Fili and Kili arguing over which spot was theirs. By the time they had settled down, Dwalin had finished the fire and was now snoring away in his roll. The only people who seemed to sleep soundly in this company; was dear Mr. Baggins and yourself.
You turned to your right, glad to see Biblo snuggled against his backpack, the only sound coming from him was the light breathing of a sleeping Hobbit. You faced towards the edge of the hill, where Thorin was keeping watch over the camp. You hadn't realized it until two weeks ago, but you had suddenly grown feelings for the Dwarvish King. Of course, when you had first met him in Bag End, it wasn't the greatest of first impressions.
You were a Hobbit, living in the cozy homes of Hobbiton. You would visit Bilbo daily, would read and take walks with your friend. You were over for supper when the Dwarves came unexpectedly and you had been greeted by Thorin with just a low huff. Of course, he was hardly different now. Stubborn and cold; but you would always seem to lighten him up. If you were lucky, you would be able to earn a small smile from The King if you'd tell a joke to The Company. Of course, you never expected him to return your feelings, so you kept it to yourself.
But that didn't stop you now from approaching him and sitting down next to him on his bedroll.
"You should be asleep" He mumbled, not taking his eyes from the scenery in front of him. Before you could reply, Fili was behind Thorin. "I'll take watch now, Uncle. You need your rest". Thorin didn't protest and moved his bedroll down near yours. As you returned too to your spot, it seemed like hours as you lay there, staring up at the sky and occasionally stealing glances at him. Sure, he was rude at most times. But he was surely breathtaking to look at.
You glanced around you nervously, making sure that no one was looking. Slowly and quietly, you shuffled closer to him- so that you were only inches away.
"I can hear you" His low voice was only a whisper and it made your heart race.
"I- uh.. I couldn't sleep" You stumbled over words before mentally slapping yourself in the face.
Thorin shifted over on his side, looking down at you, his eyes shining as the fire gave off a golden glow that outlined his features. "(Y/N)... may I ask you something?" He said, his mouth planted in a straight line.
You nodded softly, before he continued. "Why did you come with us? You know well enough of the risk, that could end up costing your life. Is Mr.Baggins that important to you?" He said it softly, not meaning it to be rude.
You glanced at him for a moment, searching for the correct words. "Well, he is my dearest friend. I would refuse to let him have all the fun, anyways" You grinned. You looked at Thorin under your lashes and could've sworn you saw him smile with some unknown emotion that you couldn't detect. What you didn't know that Thorin did return the same feelings that you held for him. Of course, it would be entirely inappropriate. A king to court a lowly Hobbit. But, that couldn't stop him from his longing to be with you. He cherished your light-hearted jokes and conversations with the dwarves and enjoyed every moment of your company. You brought out the sides of him that no one else could; and for that he loved you so.
"Plus, I'm sure it's good for me" You added quickly.
"But you haven't any training with weapons" Thorin's face came back to it's usual serious expression, his eyebrows furrowed.
"I'll get some training. We have some of the finest warriors in all of Middle Earth" You gestured a small hand-wave towards the dwarves, causing you both to laugh in a hushed-manner, aware of Fili still standing guard.
"I did urge you to leave. Tried even forcing you. Yet you were still stubborn enough to stay" Thorin laughed softly before continuing "It surprised me. Not many stand up to me often" He raised a brow as you shot him a cocky smile.
"I'll try to make myself useful for this Company. I shall try my best to stray from being a burden" You sighed with a sense of promise in your tone. Before he could reply, a sudden rush of cold blew across your shoulders, making you shiver. You hadn't noticed the cold before, perhaps it was because you were too busy in thought. Muffled shuffling got your attention as you looked back up to Thorin, who had slipped off his fur coat and now draped it across your shoulders. Your face flushed crimson as you glanced at the King and then smiled a small smile gratefully, snuggling slightly against the warmth of the fur. It smelt of wilderness. It also smelt like sweat and the musty smell of fur; of course, but the scent of the wild and Thorin overtook the smells of the must.
"Don't want you to catch a cold, now" Thorin whispered soothingly, and put his hand atop your head, stroking your hair softly. You leaned ever so slightly into his touch and snuggled closer, your eyes becoming heavy. You fell asleep to Thorin by your side and his calloused hand resting on your cheek.

"Oh my goodness.."
"Shh, be quiet, Nori!"
"Fili, don't push me!"
"Thorin! What are yer' doing?" Bofur called out in the crisp morning air as the dwarves looked down at the sight before them.
You woke to the loud-ness of Bofur's call and was soon alarmed by the fact that all the dwarves and hobbit stood around you and Thorin, shocked and stunned expressions plastered on their faces. All except for Fili and Kili. Their faces hung smirks of knowing. You looked around you and soon understood why they were staring. Your head was lying on his chest, his warmth radiating on your face. Your arm slung across his torso whilst his arms had you pulled against him. One of his legs was rested on top of yours. His nose was against the top of your head and you felt his breathing quicken as he too had woken.
"Good mornin', you too!" Fili poked you in the side of you head and you quickly backed away from Thorin, both of your faces flushed red with embarrassment.
"Soo, how was last night?" Kili chimed in, grinning from ear to ear. You and Thorin exchanged looks. "I- we.. uh. I mean- we didn't-" He fumbled frantically for an explanation, although the dwarves would hear none of it. Most The Company then burst into laughter, some, though, still in shock of the sight in front of them.
As they all stumbled off, panting from laughter, they turned to the fire to see what Bilbo had been cooking that morning, their bellies rumbling for food.
You and Thorin looked at one another again, eyes locking with eachothers'. It wasn't long before both of you wore the same small smile.
