Game Over
—- Warnings: Panic attack
—- Genre: lando x reader fluff, streaming, horror game, comforting
—- Request: yes
—- Masterlist
Summery: After losing a bet, you’re forced to play a horror game on stream with Lando and Max — until things go too far and Lando has to comfort you live on camera.
——-
The bet had started three days ago
It was stupid, really.
You had confidently told Lando Norris and Max Fewtrell that there was absolutely no way either of them could beat you at Mario Kart because they both “drove professionally and somehow still sucked at fake driving.”
That had led to a tournament.
Which had led to you losing spectacularly after getting hit with three blue shells in a row.
And now you were standing outside Lando’s streaming room staring at the setup like it was your execution.
“No,” you said flatly, arms crossed. “Actually no. I changed my mind.”
Lando was already laughing before you even finished speaking. He spun around in his chair to look at you, headset hanging around his neck.
“You can’t change your mind after the fact.”
“Yes I can.”
“That’s not how bets work.”
“It should be.”
Max snorted from the other side of the room. “Chat’s been waiting all day for this.”
You looked at him in betrayal. “You told them?”
“Maybe.”
“Max!”
The stream had already started ten minutes earlier, the “Starting Soon” screen replaced by the familiar room setup. Donations and chat messages flew down the monitor so fast they were barely readable.
The second you walked into frame, chat exploded.
CHAT
-SHES HERE
-NO WAY
-THE BET LMFAOOO
-reader horror stream finally
-lando looks way too excited about this
-protect her already
-she looks terrified 😭
You pointed accusingly at the camera. “You people are evil.”
“That’s not very nice,” Lando said dramatically.
“You’re making me play a horror game!”
“You agreed.”
“I was manipulated.”
“You signed the contract.”
“There was no contract!”
Max leaned toward the mic. “There actually is. We printed one.”
Your jaw dropped.
Lando burst into laughter at your expression, reaching out automatically to tug you closer by your wrist until you ended up standing between his knees.
“You’ll be fine,” he said, grinning up at you.
“I hate scary games.”
“You hate scary movies. Different category.”
“It is literally the same category.”
Chat was losing it.
-SHES SO DONE
-lando comforting her before it even starts 😭
-this is gonna end badly
-max instigating as usual
-boyfriend privileges revoked
Lando finally pulled you down onto his lap despite your protests, wrapping an arm around your waist while Max loaded up the game.
The second the menu music started — low, eerie, unsettling — your entire body tensed.
“Oh my god no.”
“You haven’t even started.”
“It’s already scary.”
Lando laughed into your shoulder. “Baby, it’s menu music.”
“Exactly.”
The game itself was one of those first-person psychological horror games with dark hallways and way too much ambient noise.
You lasted approximately four minutes before the first jumpscare.
A figure suddenly appeared at the end of the hallway accompanied by a loud screeching sound.
You screamed so hard you nearly launched yourself completely out of Lando’s lap.
The room erupted instantly.
Max was doubled over laughing.
Lando nearly fell backward in his chair trying to catch you.
Chat absolutely exploded.
-OH MY GOD
-IM CRYING
-HER SCREAM 😭😭😭
-SHE JUST ASCENDED
-lando caught her so fast
-MAX IS DYING HELP
“Nope,” you said immediately, grabbing for the keyboard to exit the game. “Done. Finished. Goodnight everybody.”
Lando tightened his arms around you before you could escape. “No no no, you have to play longer than four minutes.”
“I think I saw my soul leave my body.”
“You’re okay.”
“I’m literally not.”
He was still laughing, but softer now, rubbing circles against your side while you buried your face into his shoulder.
“You’re shaking,” he noticed.
“Because you two are horrible people.”
Max managed to recover enough to speak. “You screamed before the thing even moved.”
“Because I sensed bad vibes!”
Another twenty minutes passed with varying levels of disaster.
Every creak made you jump.
Every sudden sound made you grab onto Lando.
At one point you accidentally smacked his headset clean off his head because something moved in the corner of the screen.
Chat loved every second.
-SHE HIT HIM 😭
-boyfriend down
-lando is fighting for his life
-her survival instincts are violence apparently
But slowly, the joking started fading.
At least for Lando.
Because he could feel the difference between normal scared and genuinely overwhelmed.
Your reactions were getting quieter instead of louder.
You kept pulling your sleeves over your hands.
Your breathing sounded uneven against his shoulder.
And every time the game got tense, you curled tighter into yourself.
Lando glanced at you during a quieter moment in the game.
“You okay?”
You nodded too fast. “Mhm.”
But your voice sounded strained.
Max noticed too, his smile fading slightly.
“You don’t have to keep going, you know.”
“No, it’s fine,” you said quickly. “I’m fine.”
Then the game hit you with another sequence.
Dark hallway.
Heavy breathing through the speakers.
Flickering lights.
Something chasing the character.
You froze entirely.
“Run,” Max was saying. “Run run run RUN—”
The monster suddenly appeared directly onscreen with a distorted scream.
You gasped sharply.
Not screamed.
Gasped.
Then immediately shoved the headphones off.
“Nope— no no no—”
Lando sat up instantly.
“Hey.”
Your breathing was wrong.
Too fast.
You were trying to inhale but it kept catching halfway.
Your hands were trembling hard now as you pressed them against your face.
“Hey, hey,” Lando said quickly, voice completely different now. Calm. Serious.
Chat noticed immediately.
-wait
-is she okay?
-pause the game
-oh no
Max muted his own mic without even being asked.
Lando turned fully toward you in the chair, one hand holding your wrists gently.
“Look at me.”
You shook your head hard.
“I can’t—”
“Yes you can. Look at me for a second.”
Your chest hurt.
Everything felt too loud.
The game sounds.
The lights.
The stream.
The chat moving too fast.
You could feel yourself spiraling and it only made you panic more because thousands of people were watching.
“I’m sorry,” you said breathlessly. “I’m sorry, I don’t know why—”
“Don’t apologize.”
His voice stayed incredibly steady.
“You’re okay. Just breathe with me.”
You tried.
Failed.
Your breathing hitched again.
Lando immediately pulled the headset fully off himself and reached over to mute everything game-related before turning back to you completely.
“C’mere.”
He guided you sideways until you were basically curled against his chest, one arm wrapped tightly around your back.
“You’re alright.”
Max quietly switched the stream scene so the gameplay disappeared, replaced with a “BRB” screen.
But the microphones were still on low volume.
Not enough for chat to hear everything clearly.
Just enough to hear Lando softly talking to you.
“Breathe slowly for me, okay?”
You nodded shakily against him.
“In through your nose.”
He demonstrated the breath first.
“Then out slowly.”
Your breathing was still uneven, but you were trying.
“That’s it,” he murmured.
One hand stayed on the back of your head while the other rubbed slowly up and down your spine.
“No one’s upset with you.”
You squeezed your eyes shut.
“I ruined the stream.”
“You did not ruin the stream.”
“I’m being dramatic—”
“No.” His tone stayed gentle but firm. “You had a panic attack. That’s not being dramatic.”
The room was quieter now.
Max had moved off camera completely, likely checking chat and moderating things.
Lando stayed focused entirely on you.
“You’re safe,” he said softly. “It’s just us in the room, yeah?”
You nodded slightly.
“Can you feel me holding your hand?”
Another nod.
“Good. Keep focusing on that.”
It took a while.
A real while.
Your breathing gradually slowed from panicked gasps into shaky breaths.
The tightness in your chest eased little by little.
Lando never once rushed you.
Never acted embarrassed.
Never acted annoyed that stream had basically stopped.
He just kept talking quietly.
Asking simple questions.
Keeping you grounded.
Eventually you lifted your head slightly from his chest, eyes puffy with embarrassment.
“I’m okay now.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah.”
He brushed hair carefully away from your face.
“You scared me a little.”
Your expression crumpled immediately. “I’m sorry.”
“Baby.” He gave you a look. “Again with apologizing.”
You sniffed quietly
“I didn’t think it would actually affect me like that.”
“That game was horrifying,” Max finally chimed in from somewhere offscreen. “I almost had a heart attack too, for the record.”
You laughed weakly despite yourself.
Lando smiled a little at the sound.
“There she is.”
Chat, meanwhile, had completely shifted moods.
The spammy jokes had turned into concern and support.
-hope she’s okay :(
-lando handled that so well
-panic attacks are awful
-poor girl
-max muting everything immediately was sweet
-take care of her omg
Lando glanced at the monitor briefly before looking back at you.
“Do you want to end stream?”
You hesitated.
“Probably.”
“Okay.”
“No horror games ever again though.”
“Agreed.”
Max finally reappeared beside the desk. “The people demand Mario Kart redemption instead.”
You pointed weakly at him. “You are partially responsible for my suffering.”
“Only partially?”
Lando laughed softly and pressed a kiss against the top of your head.
“C’mon,” he said quietly. “Let’s end stream and go lay down for a bit.”
You nodded immediately.
And when Lando reached for the mouse to end everything, chat caught one last thing before the stream cut off completely:
You instinctively reaching for his hand again.
And him squeezing it back without even looking.
