RM ‘forever rain’ analysis

Hello beauties! The title pretty much says it all. This is just my take on the meaning of the song lyrics and what I think they convey. 

So here we go! 

[Verse 1]

“I wish it rains all day

Cuz I’d like someone to cry for me, yeah

I wish it rains all day

Cuz then people wouldn’t stare at me, yeah”

This sounds like he’s starting with his appreciation for the rain because it’s like someone’s crying for him, or with him, so there’s someone to relate to his pain.

[Verse 2]

“Cuz the umbrella would cover the sad face

Cuz in the rain people are busy minding themselves

Gonna breathe a little slower

Cuz my life and my rap, they’re usually too fast”

In the umbrella he can hide himself, no one has to see his unhappiness. When it rains, people are so preoccupied with getting themselves out of it that they don’t take much notice of those around them.

Also, the world is always going too fast. When it rains, it’s like everything slows down. This could relate to the sluggishness of depression, how it slows you down and the fast pace of life overwhelms you.

My shadow’s reflected on the sky

I’m standing on the darkness

Head down, to my heels”

Finally everything slows down, there’s no need to rush. The area is dark and he can see himself in the puddles around him. He’s looking at his feet, ignoring the world, being in his own gray one.

[Verse 4]

The tapping of the rain is like a friend tapping at your door to ask you how you’re doing. This verse portrays loneliness, and how he wants to talk to someone about his depressed state, but feels as if the rain is his only friend. He tells the rain that he wants to die, but something is keeping him alive. However, he doesn’t put effort into living because he knows that for him, dying isn’t an option.

[Verse 5]

“Just like you

If I could

Just knock on somewhere

If I could kiss

The whole world so hard

Would someone welcome me

Maybe embrace my weary body’

He’s wondering, if he makes his presence known to the people around him, maybe they’d help him. Maybe they’d give him comfort. If he gives the world his attention, maybe the world will give it back to him.

[Verse 6]

“Please don’t ask any questions

But do keep pouring forever

I’m not lonely when you’re pouring

Please stay by my side

Wanna live in the ashy world

I know that there’s no forever”

He wants to live because he finds solace in the rain. Now the rain is his friend, he found something worth living for. He wants to enjoy the presence of the rain before forever ends.
