One movie I finally found on DVD last year that is online and that you should absolutely go watch right now is Strings (2004). It's a movie about a world inhabited by marionettes that just really utilizes the fact that every character is a marionette.
When a string is cut, the character loses that limb (or their life if it's the head string). A child is carved out of wood and when a string attaches to it the child comes to life. Upper class people are carved out of higher quality wood. Those who reach a higher level of consciousness can learn to levitate by their strings.
During the making of the movie they hired master marionette puppeteers from all over the world. Though the script is kinda generic, the craftsmanship and worldbuilding and handywork of this movie is absolutely breathtaking.
