QUEEREST IN-BIRTH TOURNAMENT, SEMIFINALS, SIDE B
Having defeated his no-longer-mortal enemy Wagner in the previous poll, it's time for GORDEAU THE HARVESTER to face another person present for the "Amnesia VS Bankikai Incident" who just triumphed over Hilda, STRIX!
Now, which In-Birth is more Queer?
Gordeau
Strix
Feel free to post propaganda towards either side in the notes!
This is what Byakuya thinks about Tsukuyomi. I'll get to the "vessel" phrasing in a minute, but it's interesting that he views being empty (emotionless, purposeless, free of big goals or desires of his own) as a prerequisite for connecting to his sister. His entire identity is dependent on Tsukuyomi being there. He needs to be empty to make room for Tsukuyomi.
This is what he thinks after becoming an In-Birth. It actually makes him happier, and he states that he had been empty before but was now filled with power, attributing this to Tsukuyomi.
And it makes perfect sense that it feels that way to him, when we remember how becoming an In-Birth works.
The Void takes something out of you and injects power into the empty spaces. That's exactly how Byakuya conceptualizes Tsukuyomi's influence on him! So becoming an In-Birth just feels like having her around again, in a way.
"Empty vessels just get thrown away." Without Tsukuyomi, Byakuya has nothing, and thinks he lacks a place in this world.
You know who else has an empty Vessel?! Strix!!! The body of an In-Birth is called a Vessel, and Strix's was pierced, causing her to lose her powers. In Japanese she and Byakuya use slightly different vocabulary for what they experience, but the gist is the same.
Strix gave permission for Byakuya to abandon her-- throwing her away just as Byakuya feared he would be thrown away for being an empty vessel himself. Instead, Byakuya is desperately angry at whoever has done this... and even says that knowing Strix has been hurt makes him feel like he's also being ripped apart. It's a familiar pain, isn't it, Byakuya? The pain of being empty. And since he and Strix both know that pain, he decides not to throw her away.
If Zohar got better and teamed up with Strix again :)
i wanted to draw strix in a semi-realistic style 💜
