Yeah, a few years ago--woke up at like 1am to a tickling on my nose.  Surpise!  Spider hanging from the ceiling.  Nearly gave me a heart attack.

Give me a character and I'll break down...

How I feel about this character

I love Aster.  I wish we knew more about him in canon, personally.  The game itself was pretty sparse on info, and yet he somehow managed to become one of my favorite characters of all time.  Successors of Hope was...  Well, it gave a little more info on him, a little more insight, but it was pretty bad.  The Richter manga was nice to give a little more, too.  It's nice that we've slowly been given a more complete picture of him.

But he's...  Interesting and complicated.  I have several versions of him, honestly.  Mostly thanks to that initial lack of practically all information aside from his intellect and his idealist nature.  My Aster ranges from "completely nuts no boundaries" to "mostly a goofball who sometimes has REALLY crazy ideas but knows when to be serious".

He's brilliant, but he's an idiot sometimes, and he's a huge goofball with Richter, and it's cute and adfhasdf.  I have so many feels about him.

Seeing what happened to him as presented in Onshuu no Richter, though, man that broke my heart.  ;_;  At least he was with Richter...  But oh god that just...  That hurts, that hurts so badly.

I definitely think he wouldn't approve of what Richter did--which I think is canon at this point thanks to the latest chapter of Onshuu no Richter.  He'd be sad to see what Richter's become, what he's resorted to.

I personally think he'd want Richter to just move on and find some other way to do things, find happiness again.  ...I also like to think that he totally ships Richter/Emil, and thinks Emil's a good fit for Richter, somebody to help teach him patience (and how to cook!).

All the people I ship romantically with this character

Richter and/or Emil~  I do sometimes dabble in him with Ratatosk, too.

But especially Richter--I honestly can't see them as anything but lovers, and it breaks my heart even more knowing what happens to them.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Ratatosk, again--I sort of go back and forth with this one, haha.

My unpopular opinion about this character

...Again, though, I'm not actually sure what the popular/unpopular opinions on him are?  If I knew I'd be happy to say.

I guess maybe that I've been in the "he was sold to Sybak" camp?  I mean, I only ever saw a handful of people with that idea, so...  Though now we know at least him mom cared about him, so that probably debunks that, ahahah...

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

...That we had official confirmation that he and Richter were romantically involved?  I mean, to me, it's pretty clear that Richter was in love with him--but that's still open to interpretation, so...  It would have been nice to have it official that they were together~  (At least we finally got a last name for him, lol)

How I feel about this character

I love him, he's one of my favorites.  He's more complex than some people give him credit for (but what character ISN'T when it comes to Tales?), and I feel so bad for him but I'm proud of him at the same time.  I'm amazed at everything he endured and still came out of it in the end, even if he wasn't "okay", that still impresses me.  I don't like what he did, and wanna smack him around a bit for not deciding to fucking talk to people--I'm pretty sure explaining what Ratty did and was planning would have been a good move, but this is Tales, and nobody talks about anything important until it's too late.

I actually think that, given enough time, Richter and Ratatosk could work things out and come to some kind of understanding, and be decent friends.  They're one of my few brOTPs.  ...I also think that, given time, Richter and Marta could bond over their mutual desire to help and protect Emil and to make him happy.  (I mean, Marta clearly dearly cares for him, and I like to think Richter cared about him at least a little until the later parts of the game--and even then, I think he still cared, because of what happens in the "good" ending, they could head the Emil Defense Squad haha--Alba better watch the fuck out)

My unpopular opinion about this character

I actually don't know what the "unpopular" opinions about him are?  So, I can't actually say, oops.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

...I wish he'd been able to find happiness and peace.  He did a lot of Not Okay stuff, and a large portion of his reasoning was selfish, but like with many antagonists in Tales he was also, in his own way, going for the greater good.  (I mean, if Ratty hadn't befriended Marta, it's entirely likely that he'd never have had his change of heart).  That doesn't excuse his actions--he did a lot of bad shit.  But, he wasn't evil, so I really wish we could have been shown him having some kind of peace, rather than his actual fate.

☼ - Something that/Someone who makes them happy.

Happy, certainly a word that he knew very well. After all as a performer his number one job was make those around him happy but those who made him happy? why it was mostly his own doing. He had been born a child of the sewers,  knowing nothing but the cold. Eventually you learn to adapt, to be happy with the things you had.

Though, there was one- the one that remained constant though his life, the one that had always been there when he needed someone to confided with in.

"La Esmeralda!" he cheered, smile gleaming over his face, as his lips spoke the name of his younger relative. "The one, the only. The finest girl in France."

☠ - How do they react to death?

Death was, and will always be an interesting subject to the Gypsy. It is however one you probably will not hear him talk much about. Being the ruler of a people bread in poverty death was all around him. At a young age Clopin knew great loss. his people often killed off by famine or plague. Though he loved them all dearly the best thing for him to do was to shove it off and count it as another loss.
