The evening had been as full of mystery as it had been misunderstandings. But just as the valets had promised, come midnight the curse was broken and masks were lifted.
But not before a blood curdling scream ripped through the ballroom.
The Minister for Magic’s heirloom ruby had been replaced at some point in the evening with an all too familiar pendant: a skull with a snake spewing from its mouth. When the charm was broken so too was the spell concealing the true nature of replacement necklace. But the message was entirely clear.
The Death Eaters could get to anyone, anywhere.
Despite the Aurors’ best efforts, the crowd were too rowdy to be kept for questioning. Not many of the merrymakers saw the point in being held up over a piece of lost jewellery and were determined not to allow it to ruin their night.
The Head Auror decided there was little point in keeping anyone anyway. Any witness testimony would be near useless.
The charm that had been their best defence was now the best protection for the culprit.
The Minister for Magic realised that only a very limited number of people had been aware of her costume before the evening. Her Head of Security, the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, and Penelope Greengrass. After Penelope confessed to leaving the security plan unattended in a coffee shop for five minutes while she was distracted, she was demoted before eventually resigning.
During the first week of November the Ministry Task Force had a meeting to discuss how they might better tighten their security protocols and protect the Minister.
At the Death Eater meeting it was discovered that it had not been Antonin Dolohov’s intel that had proven most effective on the night of the masquerade, but Malakai Travers who had learned the loophole in the spell and had swapped the necklaces.
The Order have a meeting to discuss possible Death Eaters within the Ministry, and how they might best smoke them out. They are very aware that the Festive Season is quickly approaching and want to get ahead of the curve to prevent further harm to innocents.
You are now welcome to unmask your characters. You are welcome to continue your anonymous threads as though they occur before midnight, but we ask that no new starters be posted that start prior to midnight.
If you unmask your character, please post from their regular account. If you are doing a transition, you can post with the anonymous/costume side blog, and then reblog replies to your main account if it’s easier. Or just post starters from your main blog with reference to the character costume.
You may also post starters for the days following the events of Halloween. Please do not rp after November 9.
At this stage only Malakai Travers & Antonim Dolohov know exactly how the Minister was targeted.
