The Rare Book Collection is proud to celebrate the launch of online exhibition Ancient and Living Maya in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries: Archaeological Discovery, Literary Voice, and Political Struggle.
An exhibition of the same name took place in Wilson Library in 2012 during the “13 Bak’tun” symposium at UNC. This online version, enhanced by several new acquisitions and additional images, tells the story of the Maya struggle for autonomy and self-expression alongside that of European peoples’ decipherment of Mayan hieroglyphic writing.
