9.02.2025 — Updated introduction post! (제 자기소개!)
Hello everyone. 안녕하세요 여러분?
Since it's been nearly two years since my original self-introduction, I decided to create an updated one since I am sort of at a milestone point in my Korean studies. :)
My name is Asya (에샤 in Korean), and I'm a 26-year-old post-grad student studying Korean for about two years now.
On here I post study-related things mostly to motivate and hold myself accountable, but I also love to talk with other Korean learners, whether that is practicing conversation in Korean over messages, sharing study resources, or answering your questions as best as I can. Thank you to everyone I already chat with!
If you are a learner and would like to chat, you can always message me (just keep in mind that I have a full-time job and family responsibilities, so sometimes it takes me a bit to reply).
You can also message me just to introduce yourself and tell me about what you are studying! I want to know why you're studying, what you're into these days, and your goals.
What now? That's such a good question. Well, most universities only offer two years of Korean. Now that I've finished that, I'm on the hunt for another class (doesn't have to be a university setting, but that is ideal), and hopefully I can study in Korea again within the next year or two. Self-studying was never for me; I prefer the structure of a class, due dates, and a teacher, lol.
Otherwise, here are some quick facts about me:
⭐ I live in Washington State (and yes, I love Twilight, rain, and Starbucks)
⭐ I finished my English writing degree in 2020. Studying English felt like the best time of my life, and I miss it dearly.
⭐ I've taken two years of Korean at university (that's 6 quarters).
⭐ I've done a summer language program at Sogang (feel free to ask me about it).
⭐ Textbooks I've finished: 서울대 한국어 1A, 서울대 한국어 1B, 서강 한국어 1B, 서강 한국어 2B, 서강 한국어 2A.
⭐ I currently work as a freelance writer and editor. My favorite freelance gig is writing about Korean dramas.
⭐ My goal is to one day work in the realm of Korean-English translation/editing/teaching.
⭐ I enjoy creative writing in my free time, specifically literary fiction and poetry (it's the English degree in me, lol).
