SRL youth journalists from John F. Kennedy High School in Maryland visited National Institutes of Health to conduct exploratory research for a #STEM broadcast story.
Cross Country 2016
On 2 March 2016, the Saints of the College took part in the annual Cross Country held at Bedok Reservoir. The meet, organized by the House Council, was named “Care to Run 2016” as a collaborative effort to raise awareness for Autism. The Saints, be it as competitive or fun runners, ran the full 4.2km perimeter around the Bedok reservoir, definitely quite a feat for many having to run the usual 2.4km in College PE sessions! They were also joined by several teachers, including the Principal, Mr Lo himself!
On top of the run itself, “Care to Run 2016” also featured a showcase of a number of Saints dressed up as superheroes, to show their active support for the cause of Autism. Prizes were also given out for the best-represented personalities. This was also part of the House Council’s schoolwide initiative to champion the cause of Autism; they have earlier undertaken a donation drive for the St Andrew’s Autism Centre and an Instagram campaign.
It was altogether an unforgettable moment of fun and energy amidst the many commitments which Saints have to fulfil, academically and in their CCAs. Much kudos to the House Council for their brilliant organization of the day’s event!

Chinese New Year Celebration 2016
Chinese New Year is right around the corner and celebrations were held in the school on Friday to welcome the year of the Monkey. Many students looked forward to this event as not only were they excused from lessons, but they also had the opportunity to spend time and bond with their classmates.
The highlight of the celebrations would be the Lo Hei, (which is Cantonese for “tossing luck”), where people would gather around to toss the Yu Sheng (A type of raw fish salad). Our Saints definitely had a lot of fun tossing the salad with their classmates and teachers and shouting the auspicious sayings.
The activity following this was hamper wrapping where our Saints contributed various types of foods and worked with their classes to wrap their hampers that were to be given to needy families. It was heartwarming to see that even during the festivities and the celebrations, our Saints did not forget those who were in need and actively contributed items to the hampers.
The last activity was the Chinese New Year quiz at the hall. The classes competed to answer as many questions correctly as possible. The CTs of the top 3 classes were invited on stage to compete in a mandarin orange peeling contest. It was most definitely an exciting and enriching session and our Saints were able to learn more about Chinese New Year.
The Chinese New Year celebration this year was most definitely an enjoyable one. We hope that our Saints will rest well and spend quality time with their families during the Chinese New Year holiday. Happy Chinese New Year everyone!

Simei Care Centre Assembly Programme.
On Thursday 4 February, beneficiaries of the Simei Care Centre visited the College to address the JC2 Saints. They have come to share with the Saints how the Centre has developed and cared for them, and also perform songs and dances, much to their appreciation, interest and rousing applause of the audience.
The Saints have also been exposed to the activities of Simei Care Centre through a video screened for them. In addition, this event has been a good opportunity for the Saints Advocates to launch the upcoming Friendship Week, in part to raise funds for the programmes run by the Simei Care Centre. Their enthusiasm is a testament to the CCA’s cordial relations with the Centre for the past few years.
This upcoming initiative will certainly be a rewarding one, as observed from what one Advocate emcee, Au Yeong Hui Qi has explained: “The SCC is a rehabilitation centre that helps people with psychiatric disabilities in their journey towards recovery, re-integration into our community and improving the quality of their lives.”; indeed, what better help could there be than caring for another and making him feel worthwhile to the society!
