7 days

7 days, 7 days and my Erasmus will be over. Comeplete, 10 weeks of living in an other country not knowing the language not knowing which way to look before crossing the street because I’m so used to London.

This has truly been an experience to remember can’t say it’s all been plain sailing.

7 days, in 7 days I will be back in familiar territory, back to what I know. 7 days.

Euro exchange sucks

Literally overtime I start to think I’m going to enjoy my time here something else happens. 

Placement is boring as watching paint dry, the internet in my student house doesn’t work and the landlady can’t be bothered to help. 

The supposed ‘buddy system’ at this exchange university is pointless because the ‘buddies’ don’t want to do anything to help us. so far Belgium you suck. 

Get me back to London!!!

Carrying on despite the gloom

So I have arrived, yesterday in fact. What a day! dashing for my train from London! yeah I really should have been slightly more prepared!

Now I’m here it’s day one, everything is new, not fantastic yet but I’m trying to carry on, I have a slight gloomy feeling that it’s not everything it was described as. You know when you order something online as apposed to when you get it and its not quite as described. 

Whilst I am sure this experience will be life changing I am struggling ever so slightly, I’m on a flat with other international students which should be the ideal situation, I’m sure that will get better to right?

I officially start my internship tomorrow, Which I’m looking forwards to even just for the chance to talk to someone!! 

So yeah carrying on despite the feelings of loneliness and gloom.

Exchange worries

It can be said that a little anxiety is a good thing. then you go to nursing school and the anxiety is real! add in the fact that you have actively chosen to go on euro exchange in your third year and you start to believe you have some sort of death wish. 

while the prospect of the exchange is so exciting I can consciously aware of all the things I have to complete in third year of my nursing degree. The dissertation the big pain in the book sized bum that looms so many hours in a dark library while ‘normal’ students do what ‘normal’ students do. 

Not only am I still required to do all of the work everyone not going on exchange do I’m d an exchange. while everyone staying behind has direct access to supervisors and you know the grown ups I’ll be in Europe figuring the whole thing out for myself. 

the panic is real, the dissertation is long, life as a student nurse is stressful these are all facts. alarmingly, funny’ish facts because if you can’t laugh at all the extra work you have to do what can you do? probably nap is what I’d do.

Euro exchange

Pre registration nursing is a full time business. it takes up more time that you actually realise, you spend nights, days weeks eating, sleeping and breathing nursing, you never escape. 

The three years you spend, making your way through the course is like playing that Microsoft game minesweeper, where you have to click on the squares and not hit any of the mines. 

My first two years have not been all plain sailing but finally third year is here, one more year and the would meets RN Hambley. What did I say earlier yeah my first two years anything but an easy ride, now third year is here what have I decided yeah I going to spend three months in another country learning nursing there!

I can’t explain how much mix bag of emotions I have leading up to this exchange happening, excitement at trying something new, nervous because I’m going into the unknown. After finally getting over the hurdle that is 2nd year of pre reg nursing I’m jumping head first into third year and moving away from everything I know and understand about nursing and exploring how another country does things. 

What will happen only time will tell, will I make it through 3 months 10 weeks placement. in a country where I do not speak the native language, again only time will tell.
