s43 Portrait: Terrence J
Lifestyle Specialist, Kenny Burns, sits down exclusively Terrence J in this Studio 43 Portrait featuring the burgeoning television executive, actor and author. Terrence Jenkins, better known as Terrence J, is best known as the host of BET's popular music video countdown show 106 & Park from 2006 until 2012. He is now the new co-anchor of E! News and recently made his mark as an actor in the box office smash, Think Like a Man. In the interview, he discusses his upbringing, drawing inspiration and motivation from his mother, who had him at the age of 17. Jenkins recalls the struggles he faced being raised by a single mother who was so young and how he feels beyond blessed to be able to support her now saying, "It feels amazing to be in a position to provide for my family and make sure my mom is straight..." He recalls questioning his mom to prepare for his role as the 'momma's boy' in Think Like a Man and how he has gotten closer to her through his journey from auditioning to hosting 106 and Park to now acting in major motion pictures and hosting E! News.
He also discusses his new book The Wealth of My Mother's Wisdom, which releases on October 1, and includes contributions from his mother and celebrities like Ludacris, Trey Songz, Kevin Hart, T.I. and more. The book centers around strong, successful men talking about their mothers and the influence that their mothers have had in their life - a major factor for Jenkins, who attributes his strength and perseverance to the unwavering support of his mother. As far as staying grounded and not letting the success get to his head, Jenkins states, "I don't want to get absorbed into the whole hollywood thing, because I have only been in Hollywood for a year... but it's exhilarating to be in the position that I am at my age and to be able to produce and call shots and I am really excited about what the future holds."
