Makeup Review: Concealer
Amazing Cosmetics, simply AMAZING! Having suffered from so many sleepless nights, using concealer before applying make up has been a MUST for me. I've tried many concealers in my lifetime, from drug store brands to high end department store brands however, Amazing Concealer by Amazing Cosmetics is definitely one of my favorites.
I bought a tube which retails for $42** at Sephora (worth EVERY penny) for the Miss Washington pageant in the fall of 2008, I have used it daily since and I'm still on the same tube. The formula is very thick so a little goes a LONG way.
If you haven't tried it yet, you must! If you're unsure about spending $42 on a concealer (I don't blame you) go into a Sephora store, have them try it on you and then decide for yourself.
**They now offer a mini-version of it (2oz. instead of 5oz) for $28
Other products I have tried that are runner ups to Amazing Concealer are:
Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer - $22
MAC Studio Finish SPF 35 - $16.50

Mac Studio Finish Concealer VS. Clinique Even Better Concealer
Being someone who has very dark circles and bags under my eyes (hereditary) I’ve tried a handful of full coverage concealers. The two that I have used the most is the Mac Studio Finish concealer (NC42) and the Clinique Even Better concealer (Hazelnut). I will be comparing these two concealers in this post.
MAC STUDIO FINISH: This is the Mac’s most full coverage concealer that they offer. Within the first few weeks of wearing it under my eyes, I realized that it does crease a lot. I have tried wearing it with different powders and primers, and it still creased badly. Also, whenever I would put powder on top of it to reduce creasing, it would then begin to look cakey. So I then had the mixture of creasing and cakey- which is not a pleasant look. I should also mention that I do not have any wrinkling around my eyes- only fine lines when I smile. However, the studio finish concealer would settle into every fine line possible. This also has a matte finish. This concealer is available in 13 shades
CLINIQUE EVEN BETTER: This is also Cliniques most full coverage concealer that they offer. This concealer does not crease very much at all on me, and it has a natural finish. When I set it with powder, it does not look cakey. This concealer is available in 12 shades.
COMPARISON: Even Better does not crease a lot when setting with powder, while the Studio Finish does with or without powder. (SF also gives a cakey effect with powder)
Even Better has a more natural finish
Studio Finish may give slightly more coverage, but it does not look natural at all especially under the eyes
Even Better has a more creamy texture than Studio Finish, while Studio Finish feels more dry
Since Studio Finish has such a high SPF, it has the tendency to leave a white cast in flash photography
Studio finish has 7g of product, SPF 30, & retail price: $18
Even better has 3.5g of product, SPF 15, & retail price: $19.50
And lastly, for my personal skin tone (yellow/beige undertones) the Even Better concealer in Hazelnut is a much better match for my skin than the Studio Finish concealer in NC42.
For reference in shade matching, here is a list of the shades that match me in foundations:
Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse foundation: 240 Natural beige
Loreal True Match Lumi foundation: W5 Sand beige
Neutrogena Healthy Skin foundation: 70 Fresh beige
