hey man love your blog and I just wanted to ask you about the architecture programme at your university. I'm currently studying third and final year at the univeristy of edinburgh and i gradute with a BA and then I have to do a two year M arch degree. I just wanted to know how masters programme in the us works and whether you get many british students doing their masters in the US? I was planning to apply to some american universites for my M arch. thank you

Well really there's a lot of variety in masters programs here! I believe most programs range from 2 to 4 years. At NC State, our masters is 2 years. As for the number of brits, we don't really have a lot here in Raleigh, but I suspect thats different in bigger cities :)

Alai Minar, Delhi. Took this photo in the Qutb complex in Delhi ages ago. This was Alauddin Khilji plan to build a tower double the height of the Qutb Minar. Poor bastard failed miserably in his attempt, but still the rubble masonry core remains which is pretty cool. It also leads one to speculate how most monuments in Delhi were built. When the main structure is completed it would have been faced with dressed sandstone as one can see on the Qutb Minar. I'm guessing the Taj Mahal would have followed a similar construction technique where a rubble core is clad in marble.

Bazaar of Tabriz, Tabriz, Iran. One of the oldest and largest covered bazaars in the world. Hope to visit it one day. The original photo can be found here.

Have to design a single residential unit. Thought might explore different outlines and whether that might in turn help with the actual design. Maybe I'm thinking too far ahead and should instead pick the simplest one and explore the unit in three dimension and actually assign the spaces needed for that unit. I can try to play around with the actual section and its different permutations and combinations. This might actually might be useful at some point. Procrastinating......... I'll properly start working tomorrow.

Thought I would do an image breakup of this isometric. The process is very similar to one I saw on www.alexhogrefe.com. First step is to set the layer blend mode to multiply, that makes all the white spaces transparent. Then its all about adjusting the opacity of these 4 images before applying overlays of textures and solid colours which are further adjusted. The jitter layer is also motioned blurred to add a bit of depth to the whole image. The whole process took about an hour of photoshop work, and it could have been finished even earlier if I wasn't watching Youtube videos of Richard Dawkin.
